Upgraded to 11th floor in hotel for $ 100 per night
My wife and I just stayed at the Westin Maui hotel for 7 nights, 5 of which were on the Westin promo of $ 749 for 6 days, 5 nights, $ 185 towards a Avis rental, and a $ 100 resort certificate, that doubled to $ 200 if used towards an(hotel) upgrade. Since we were going for President's week, which is also a major scenic week because of the whale presence, thousand of them, I could only get Sunday night thru Friday night and needed to add 1 day at the beginning and 1 day at the end. I did that thru skyauction. com, hotels for Westin Maui, and got those two nights for under $ 300, no ups and no extras, and no hotel taxes being added on. There is an additional $ 20 per night for additional amenities and another $ 12 or so in taxes. The skyauction rooms were a higher grade than the Westin promo, usually 1st or 2 nd floor, mountain view. I upgraded for the five nights, and used the $ 100 gift certificates which doubled if used towards the upgrade. We went on the sales presentation and got another $ 100 certificate plus 50% off on a Westin stay thru 12/31/08. Thus, the two $ 100 certificates (actually four $ 50 certificates) covered the upgraded hotel room for 4 of the 5 nights. Even then, before we found the restaurants (Rusty Harpoon, Leilani (sp) and Hula Grill) in The Whalers Village next door, we charged almost $ 500 at the Westin Maui. So, Westin has a way of extracting many additional dollars beyond what you pay for the promotional stay. It is a two way relationship. I won't mention the name of the sales person, but if I could, I would give him hight marks, like 9.7 on a 10 point scale. E-mail me if you want his name.
