Do you get put up in a 1BR or 2BR? IV, OV or OF??? Just curious. Thinking I might send my parents on the tour that is through Am Ex since they are wanting to buy there anyway.

My friend & her husband did this promo last fall. They stayed in the Sheraton at Black Rock. She said it was a nice room, standard hotel room.

Edited to add that I think they were on an Am Ex promo.

You usually stay at the Sheraton or Westin Hotel in a standard (no view) room.

UGH. I love the Sheraton on Black Rock but the no view room would do everyone in. Sigh....

Kath - I believe you can upgrade your hotel room for a fee.

They sometimes put you in a studio at the villas too, but I don't think it is guaranteed. It depends on whether they have space and how far ahead you book it. You may not get a premium view either. You can ask them before you buy it if a particular date will get you a stay at the resort.

That's weird both of my friends that have done the promo stayed in the 1 bedroom at WKORV. One went during late June and the other went during Septmeber. In fact a third friend tried to do the promo but they wouldn't let her because they have 5 in their family. They only take up to 4 per room. The June promo was in fact last June 2007.

My parents did the promo and stayed at the Westin hotel. My in-laws just returned from the promo about a month ago and they were put up in a studio at WKORV-N. They bought an Explorer package to return to North in a studio. I guess it all depends...on what, I have no idea.

I've been told it's all based on availability and varies with the specific time you want to go.

I would have thought late June would be a busy time, though. Did they reserve way in advance?

They put us up in a standard room at the Westin hotel. You could upgrade to an ocean view for $800, I believe.

Hi Julie - Was it you that told me you were promised a WKORV unit and then they switched you to a standard room at the hotel after you arrived?

Thank you for causing me to go down memory lane. I did this promo back in October of 2006 and stayed at the Westin Hotel. They allowed me to upgrade to an oceanview on the top floor for $150 per night ($750 total). Prior to that room we either paid lot of $ for a suite, rented a condo that was generally off the beaten path, or stayed in a small hotel room. It was this stay in a very small hotel room with two small kids that caused me to go on a buying spree. I am greatful to this promo that caused me to find TUG and buy 740,500 Staroptions.

Upgraded to 11th floor in hotel for $ 100 per night

My wife and I just stayed at the Westin Maui hotel for 7 nights, 5 of which were on the Westin promo of $ 749 for 6 days, 5 nights, $ 185 towards a Avis rental, and a $ 100 resort certificate, that doubled to $ 200 if used towards an(hotel) upgrade. Since we were going for President's week, which is also a major scenic week because of the whale presence, thousand of them, I could only get Sunday night thru Friday night and needed to add 1 day at the beginning and 1 day at the end. I did that thru skyauction. com, hotels for Westin Maui, and got those two nights for under $ 300, no ups and no extras, and no hotel taxes being added on. There is an additional $ 20 per night for additional amenities and another $ 12 or so in taxes. The skyauction rooms were a higher grade than the Westin promo, usually 1st or 2 nd floor, mountain view. I upgraded for the five nights, and used the $ 100 gift certificates which doubled if used towards the upgrade. We went on the sales presentation and got another $ 100 certificate plus 50% off on a Westin stay thru 12/31/08. Thus, the two $ 100 certificates (actually four $ 50 certificates) covered the upgraded hotel room for 4 of the 5 nights. Even then, before we found the restaurants (Rusty Harpoon, Leilani (sp) and Hula Grill) in The Whalers Village next door, we charged almost $ 500 at the Westin Maui. So, Westin has a way of extracting many additional dollars beyond what you pay for the promotional stay. It is a two way relationship. I won't mention the name of the sales person, but if I could, I would give him hight marks, like 9.7 on a 10 point scale. E-mail me if you want his name.

We just returned from using our week at WKORV-N last night, it was so hard to come home!! :( The lady next to us was on the explorer package and she was put up in an Ocean View Studio on the 6th floor. She ended up buying EOY for $30K and 225K Star Points. The room had a great view because you could see whales almost all day long right from your room.

Yes, I was originally promised a studio but then put in the hotel. They did give us a $100 credit for our troubles.
