We are planning a trip 4/15 to Maui. Aside from the TSA mess, are the airports in Honolulu or Maui affected? We are planning on staying in kananippali. Are restaurants there closed?

It doesn't look bad in Maui when viewing YouTube clips from a couple of the area realtors who have drone videos of what it looks like. Kihei looked bad but its now looking pretty clean. West Maui looked fine other than the rock slide and a bit of flooding near Lahaina which has been taken care of for the most part. In a few weeks I bet everything is normal for the most part. No idea about the restaurants but you could check their FB pages or call.

From reports I've seen most businesses and restaurants are open. The Road to Hana opened yesterday with a lot of cautionary warnings. Kihei is looking better, but there still are some road closures causing detours, mostly around the areas where portion of the road were destroyed. The warning is to stay out of the brown water, but that should be cleared up by April.

How about downtown Oahu, Hawaii?
Conditions have improved significantly. Waikiki never really had any major issues, but other areas of Honolulu, like Manoa near UH, and the east side had a lot of problems over the weekend. Dorms were evacuated, we know people whose houses were flooded. Dozens of cars submerged by flood waters.

North Shore suffered tremendous damage, though luckily the Dole dam did not break.
