Any inexpensive golf courses in or near Sedona?

We will be going to Sedona the end of May and are debating on bringing the golf clubs or not. We both love to play but don't like paying ridiculous greens fees. We don't need luxurious resort courses, just a decent course at a decent price. We will be spending our first night in Phoenix and then drive to Sedona for a week and back to Phoenix for 1 night before we fly home.

We will be staying at the Hilton Squaw Peak the first and last nights and I know there is a golf course at the Hilton Tapatio but may still be expensive for us and thinking we should just relax and make the most of the resort by enjoying the pools and lazy river. We wouldn't mind having to travel to a course within say 30 minutes of Sedona to play. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Boggie

All kinds

Too many to list here, but suggest as soon as you check in, get a list from the front desk. Green fees go down the first of May and with our tourist trade way down this year, you definitely should bring the clubs. You should not have any problems in Sedona, either.

There are two very popular semi private courses in VOC on the south side of Sedona. The Sedona Golf Resort and Oakcreek CC. Both have rental clubs available, and depending on time of day etc, you can play for less than $100.

Head towards Cottonwood, AZ and you will find Verde Santa Fe GC. Nice golf course, rates were very reasonable when we played there as group, but it was June. Not as scenic as the Sedona courses, but nice layout, was in good condition.....approximately 15 miles from Sedona.

Verde Santa Fe underwent a massive reseeding project last year. It was a complete failure. The condition of the course this year is poor at best. I used to recommend it as an affordable option, but not any more. It would be a huge disappointment. Even people who stay at the Highland Ranch TS resort there are advised to go and play the little old course in Clarkdale. That's another option, but more executive size.
