Would like to plan a summer 2024 trip out west (Montana, Idaho, Washington) but the quality timeshares seem limited. Prefer Marriott as a current owner.

There are no Marriott timeshares in the area. Summer is also peak time and getting an exchange will not be easy.

I have been looking for years at Montana and Idaho and keep coming up empty. I wonder why such a dearth.
There are quality lodgings, they just don't happen to be timeshares. Check out the Park Hotels in Yellowstone/Grand Teton, or Sun Valley Lodge, or Banff Springs or Hotel Lake Louise (yes, I know these are in Canada) Or Shore Lodge in McCall, ID. There are luxury AirBnB 'cabins' that will house a large group. You just have to look under different rocks than you've been checking.

Timeshares are great in mass-market vacation places where the season is year-round. In the area you are inquiring about, the season is 12 weeks. They have to make their annual profit during those 12 weeks, because the locals can't just keep passing their own money back and forth among themselves.

I may well have a (for the area) nice freshly refurbed 1 BR fixed week (29) TS 22 miles from the Yellowstone Park entrance that I will make a new owner very happy for next season. Stay Tuned.

There is a Marriott Spring Hill Suites at Island Park ID on Henry's Fork of the Snake River, just built last year. Not a timeshare, but quite nice with lots of activities.

We stayed at the Marriott Townplace Suites in Whitefish, MT and it was the nicest Townplace we've stayed at. Good breakfast and they provided bear spray for our trips to Glacier Park. Hotel was new, but required a lot of MR points. I would definitely stay there again. It was only a few miles from the Amtrak station.

Meadow Lake in Columbia Falls near Whitefish/Glacier has very nice timeshare units. Worldmark West Yellowstone's are also nice.
I understand being "spoiled" by Marriott-type timeshares, but by limiting your timeshare options, you will miss out on some unique resorts!

You can only get some of these timeshares through RCI. Meadow Lake Resorts are an example of RCI inventory. They have others. If you only have II and Marriott, I rarely see anything. You might want to peruse II Resort Directory.

I'm going on my maiden voyage to MT this summer and renting an Airbnb.
You will enjoy it. The entire state is beautiful. Hoping there is a lot of rain during your stay, so everything is green.

If you want to stay at Worldmark at Yellowstone, you really need to own at Worldmark or rent it from an owner.

That’s what we did. Rented from an owner. Great location to see the park.

I’ve stayed at the fixed tents inside Yellowstone 2 times. Price wise they are the least expensive of all accommodations. But the downsides are the close proximity to other tents. And shared showers and restrooms.

That's too much like camping.... :p
