Any drawbacks or watchouts to buying HGVC points on resale?

Trying to figure out the ins and out of going the resale route. What should I look out for when looking at buying HGVC points on the resale market? Do I get the same benefits buying resale as if I bought from Hilton?

Buy through a reputable resale broker -- e.g., Judi Koslowski or Seth Nock -- get clean title, and the only difference will be that your points will not count toward elite status.

save a lot of money!

I just bought three resale from three different sources.
Ebay,Judi, and Holiday group.
All went fine, Holiday the smoothest, Ebay the second smoothest and Judi came in third, they insisted on Title insurance, I did not want it, that closing was the most expensive of the three and took the longest of the three.

Bottom line, just be smart, do your homework and use caution in dealing with people you don't know.

Then enjoy yourself knowing you just saved a lot of money for an excellent product!

Check out the "sticky" notes that you will find under the Hilton Grand Vacations Forum page. There are articles and alot of in depth info available there about the ins and outs of HGVC.

Gchumway,

You need to think hard about Title insurance. Think of it like health insurance. Millions of people go without health insurance and they save hundreds of thousands of dollars without an incident. Except for that one person who gets sick or injured and will be indebt for the rest of their life. If you go without Title insurance, take all possible precaution that the TS you are buying is "free and clear" and hope you didn't miss anything.

How do you know what a good deal is? Are there any rules of thumb to follow? What is the best way to value your points so that you know you are getting a good deal?

We kind jumped into this a few years ago without knowing much. What prompted to learn more was an offer to upgrade from Hilton. It got me thinking that I should have a better understanding of the economics and how to make this worthwhile. That's how I found this site.

I think that you should speak with an authorized resale person. The 2 names that are prominent on the site here are Seth and Judy. I recommend Judy because I used her and had nothing but the best service. She will answer every single question and will be able to search for the best deal. You can call her at 1800 541-5666 ext. 622.

Beware of Hilton's upgrade offers. They are rarely (if ever) a good deal compared to buying additional points through resale. If you are uninterested in attaining elite status, then you should never, ever, ever buy directly from Hilton. You can get 3x points if you buy resale. I recently had an upgrade offer from Hilton whereby I would give them my 4,800 Seaworld points and they would sell me 3 x 5,000 point packages (15,000 total points) for a mere $40,000+. I knew that I could get 2 x 7,000 point packages through resale for no more than $22,000. Hilton just can't compete with resales.

As far as good deals or rules of thumb for resales, you shouldn't have to pay more than $2 per point. Often times you can get resales for around $1.50 or $1.40 per point. Always factor in the MFs, and keep in mind the other issues you would normally consider in buying at the various HGVC locations (e.g., buying where you will vacation v. just buying points to use anywhere). Ultimately, if it feels good to you and you will use it, then it is a good deal. Good luck.

Rule of thumb for resales -- you can get gold for about $1/point, platinum for about $1.60/point. Used to be higher, but prices have come down slightly with the economy.

Why 3rd

"why judy third? she is amazing"

I only dealt with Judy on the front end,
she did a fine job, but when I compare all three transactions, the ones that were the fastest and smoothest
were not through her listing.
Nothing personal, it was also the only one I had to pay title insurance on, even though I didn't want it or need it.
That was not stated in the ad.
I purchased three within a few months of each other so I recieved a real taste of the entire process.
I would still deal with her, I would just know going in what the true requirements are.

I am so envious, I want to purchase another one. I hope to be able to before August.

I shopped a lot!

They are out their, just be patient, I waited six months before finding my first one, the second just feel in my hands.
The third, I didn't plan on and was by far the best one for the price.
I didn't think it would pass ROFR but it did.
I don't think I could buy them any cheaper now, it seems like prices have actually gone up.
I signed the contracts on two when the banking isues first hit so there was a lot of scared people out there.
I wish you well in your future purchases!
