How long did it take from start to finish on your purchase? I am purchasing resale. Closing documents signed and money sent third week of June to closing company. Still waiting for deed to be recorded. Atty in St. KItts says not to worry but I am really annoyed by this delay. How long did your process take from the time you signed the closing docs till deed recording and notification from Marriott that the week was officially yours?

We bought two weeks at St Thomas Frenchmans Cove in 2007 - took about 6 months. Then last year we traded back one St Thomas week for a ShadowRidge Enclaves week with Marriott - that took about 9 months. So it does take longer for internationl sales.

We bought in August 2007 from Marriott and it took a year before we had received all the paperwork. We bought very early from the developer because we knew we wanted St. Kitts and a re-sale option was not likely for some time. The whole process was complicated by the slowness of St. Kitts officials and a lack of communication to us as owners from Marriott. Despite problems with the whole process, it didn't diminish our satisfaction with the resort and the island.

Sun & Fun, Interesting that you own at both St. Kitts and Aruba. Except for the fact that they are both in the Caribbean I cannot imagine any two locations that differ so widely in their ambiance.

KathyPet:

You are quite right - they are very different experiences. We love them both, but are beginning to find the over-development of Aruba troubling. We continue to enjoy our annual trips to Aruba because of the wonderful friends weve made there.

I agree with some who think St. Kitts is a bit like Aruba was 30 years ago= with beautiful scenery. Our experience with the Kittians is that they are naturally warm and friendly, given to limin' and proud of their island -- For good reason.

Love, love St. Kitts. Beautiful island and the resort is so well laid out, quiet and peaceful. Went to Aruba in 2001 and DH and I said we would never return. The whole high rise thing with relatively small footprints for the property, overcrowded pools, waiting for elevators is not for us.

Kathy, when I talked to Marriott last year about one of the South Carolina resorts, I asked about the length of the closing process. The Orlando based sales person told me, St. Kitts takes forever, because they only process 2 deeds a week or something like that. So it doesn't sound like buying direct gets you on a fast track.

I know one of my fellow DVC'ers bought an EOY gold week from Marriott during the anniversary sale last year. I could ask how long it took her.
