Sorry, if this has been posted before (I did search the archives)... where do you all get your books for your E-Readers? Everywhere I look, the books are not any cheaper to buy in electronic format vs. the real thing. Is there a cheap place to find them?

If it helps, I've just purchased a Nook that should arrive soon.

I buy them from B&N - I get about half of them for less than the paperback shelf rate, and about half for the same or more. If you want brand new books, it's not a big savings, but it sure is convenient!

Every Fri. they have a free or heavily discounted new book they offer, and there is a long list of under $5 books and free books. Most of the free books are classics, or first efforts by unpublished authors, but sometimes a well-known author will give a away a book for free for a short time.

I like to do my browsing on my laptop - I just add the books I'm interested in to my B&B "wish list." Then when I need a new book, it's just a few clicks to DL a book from the wish list.

I haven't tried other sources for books, yet.

One advantage of the Nooks, I've been told, is that many local library systems allow you to borrow books with your nook via download. The book stays on your nook only for a set time period, just like checking out a book over the counter.

Are there any online clubs or places to get them cheaper? I'm especially looking for Louis L'Amour books, and I can get used ones for a dollar or two at a local store. On bn.com they sell for over four dollars.

Always enjoy reading over the break! :)

Ace,

You probably saw this previous Tug thread but just in case you missed it:
Free eBooks

By the way, in case you don't know, if you order a free eBook from Amazon.com - you still click their purchase button & download. Amazon sends you an invoice showing a $0.00 charge. I think that's their way of keeping track of what you order from them.

Enjoy your new Nook.
