Did anyone get this offer on the Brilliant AMEX? I am going to check my account. I assume it's on Amex log-in, right?

Is it in the Amex offers area or when you login?

Yes, and the offer area was glitchy for me today. At one point no offers showed up.

Also this is for the Bevy card. Not sure if this offer is specific to the Bevy card or if I was targeted.

I'm not sure about other credit cards, but American Express sends out targeted offers. You may have the Bevy, Hilton Aspire, SkyMiles Platinum, etc, but one person gets a phenomenal offer while you don't.

The offer is not there on my brilliant card. I’m in no hurry to hand over my money, so I’ll just keep watching

Back of the envelop analysis - Say $10,000 in MF's so "60,000 points if Marriott Visa used" or "120,000 points if the AMEX card used." Approx dollar value at $.008 per point (Bonvoy point valuation I read recently) then it would be $480 versus $960. I guess it might be worth changing cards for some.

Incidentally, I gave up chasing Bonvoy points after accumulating a ton of points and suffering the subsequent devaluation of Bonvoy points in use. Could the Bonvoy point system be an exaggerated mirage?

Good luck on this.

Ironically, I was just looking at a stay in Tampa at the Marriott in the airport. This is half a cent a point. Trying to decide whether to pay $273 for a hotel room or the points. I may just use points because I have so many of them.

Wow - but, it's a pretty good teaser worth about $96 (12,000 x $.008). I'm so glad you mentioned this limit.

Doesn’t appear to be available on my Bonvoy Business Amex card.

I might have an explanation for why the Brilliant card doesn’t have the 12X bonus offer.

I’ve noticed on my Brilliant card that, when I make a purchase with Marriott, I have an additional set of bonus points that I hadn’t quite firgured out. When I got to looking more closely the card has been giving me an extra 5X bonus points on Marriott purchases for being platinum elite, or a total of 11 points. I suspect this is why the offer doesn’t appear on the Brilliant card since they increased the status from Gold to Platinum for just having the card.

I’ve been a platinum member long enough that the bonus has always been there. My wife, who wasn’t platinum, wasn’t getting the extra 5X points until recently. Because she also has a Brilliant BonVoy card and they increased the status for being a card member from Gold to Platinum, she’s been receiving the extra 5X bonus this year.

I just saw this offer in my Bevy Card. 12 points per dollar on maintenance fees up to 24,000 points. Expires Dec 31.

View attachment 101466

I will check this out. I planned to cancel my Bevy card (when $250 yearly fee is due). An Amex rep said if I cancel before 12 months they will take back the Rewards bonus I got for my Flex purchase last year (!?!?).

Unfortunately I did not have it on my basic AMEX Bonvoy (former SPG card) nor Bus Bonvoy. I would use it because I use these cards to pay anyway. I don't go out of my way to chase Bonvoy and airline points much anymore because of the devaluations. Sad how we went from valuable Starwood cards and now pesos. Bonvoy points handy for an upgrade, adding on a night to a timeshare stay or an occasional airport repositioning night. The industry destroyed loyalty to any one hotel brand. I don't plan on Bonvoy for aspirational stays anymore.

I now tend to use discount airlines and FNCs that arrive annually with the card.

I guess I should pay for something and see if I am getting the 11X points on my MF's. Might make that Tampa hotel more worthy of the points.

Which Tampa hotel have you chosen, I'm struggling with the variety available for mid Dec?

It is the Tampa Airport Marriott hotel, actually entered through the airport, which I loved last time we stayed. No need to go outside, catch a shuttle, and go to an off-site location. Ironically, it says .4 miles from the airport. I did feel like I walked a long way to the hotel from the gate, but it's definitely attached to the airport.

It is a convenient hotel, but to date it is the only one that stole one of our Suite Night Awards and didn't honor the upgrade that was confirmed with one.

It is always best wait to cancel a new card until the second year AF posts to the account. Especially with AMEX.

Does Amex prorate the annual fee and give a partial refund if you cancel after AF posts? I think this happened once, when I downgraded Chase Sapphire Reserve.

If you cancel right after the AF posts (like within that billing period) they will fully refund/cancel the AF. If you wait longer than that, I’m not sure if they will give you a prorata refund or not.
