One bag on our American Flight from Maui last weekend was damaged. There was no one at the Austin airport American baggage room. No one returned 3 calls over several days. You can email American if you have a PhD in computer science to get the message transmitted. I finally faxed American's complaints department yesterday.

Damaged baggage has to be reported within 24 hrs according to their web site.

This has not been my typical experience with American's customer service department.

If you tried to contact them, then you've attempted to fulfill the burden to report within 24 hours. I'd submit a claim noting that you did, indeed, attempt leave a message with them over 3 days and no one responded.
