All of a sudden we can't watch movies without constant buffering. We use the Roku stick. We are able to watch some other shows with no problem. What could be the issue?

Mary Ann,

I don't have a concrete answer. Probably just a glitch. What type of internet provider do you have?

It could be on Amazon's server that is a problem. There are so many variables.

I get this from time to time. However it has been much better recently.

Here's a site that will test your download speed:

https://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

We would have occasional interruptions when it was less that 15-20 Mbps. After Comcast gave us a free equipment upgrade, the speed increased to over 80 Mbps, and we haven't had any interruptions since. Are their other devices on your network that could be hogging bandwidth?

We have DSL.

We were having constant problems with it last year. Then we had an internet problem, and a tech came to our home and switched out the modems and from then on it worked like a charm.

Then, a few weeks ago we had an issue with the server on the internet and my husband called the phone company and the tech had him changing all the settings and so forth. My husband got a supervisor on the phone who was able to fix everything.

But since then, we have had this issue. Yet, we watch other things on ROKU, like the Blaze network talk shows, and also some old TV show and it works fine.

It is not pleasant to watch a movie when it is buffering every few minutes.

We were having this same problem with our roku XD. The problem was on our 2.4mhz channel. Seems like it had download speeds of 8-10mhz but still wasn't fast enough to stop the buffering. Now we are using the Amazon Fire stick and connect it to our 5ghz channel which has 50+Mbps and have had no buffering problems.

It could be a problem with congestion on the router channel you are using. I think most routers default to channel 6. Do a speed test as suggested and then if you are using 2.4ghz try changing to channel 1 and retest. Then change to channel 11 and retest again. Go with whichever one gives you the fastest downloads. I use channel 153 on the 5ghz and it consistently gives me about 58mbps download speeds. That's compared to the 8-10 (or less) that I am getting on the 2.4ghz.

Another possible fix could be as simple as rebooting your router and cable modem.

If you run the speed test and are getting good numbers I would first call Amazon and have them try and help. Lastly I would call your internet provider and see what they can do. Good luck

For starters, test your internet speed. It's free, and takes about a minute to complete. http://www.speedtest.net A least you'll have that information to provide to your ISP.
