Not sure where to ask this question; some trades that you can make, mainly into Mexico,DR, Jamica, require the payment of an additional fee for their all-inclusive option. Where can you find out what this fee is? Can II tell you or do you have to contact the resort itself?

You can find out on the II website, if the resort currently has any units available for exchange or a Getaway. Just click on the week in question as though you're going to take it, and on the second or third screen it will tell you what the AI fees are. (You can then just click out of the transaction without actually booking it.)

If there are no units available then you should call II. The resort may have different costs for different sources, and they may not even know what II will charge you.

I've never even been to an all inclusive, let alone exchange into one but the common thinking here on TUG seems to be that you can usually do as well or better by just doing a packaged vacation, In other words, by the time you book your flight separately, give up your week, pay an exchange fee and pay the extra all inclusive fee, you're usually not really getting much value for the week you give up in exchange.

That's the long way of suggesting that you compare an all inclusive package including flight and resort to the DIY approach of exchanging into an all inclusive.

While I have not done AI before, I caution you to check the fine print. If you have a studio that sleeps 4 but there are only 2 in your party, you may be charged AI for 4.

Exchange company should be able to tell you daily rates, but to whatever extent possible, double-check with the resort. Things change, exchange companies only post new info when it shows up, they are unlikely to go seeking it.

I was under the same impression as well until this summer. My wife and I planned an extremely last minute trip in August. From what was available, the resort my wife liked from what was available was El Dorado Seaside Suites in Mexico.

That resort was absolutely amazing. Rooms very great, service was great and the food was incredible.

The price of booking a trip ourselves may possibly have come out the same but it was nice to get excellent quality and not have to think about costs for food and drinks (including mixed alcoholic drinks). To be honest, I doubt it just with the drinks alone would have added up. The only thing we paid for out of pocket was tips, any excursions we decided to go to outside the resort, and any spa treatments we went to at the resort. They gave us one session for free and we loved it and went back.

Anyways, I was skeptical and wasn't sure about doing an all-inclusive but there are quality resorts out there like this resort. My wife and I are hoping to try some of the other sister resorts or find other highly reviewed/quality all-inclusive resorts like this.

Read all of the fine print and call the resort directly if you have to. Do your due diligence so you are not surprised after you've arrived at the resort.

I agree with you on 90-95% of all AI timeshare exchanges but there are some hidden gems out there that make it worthwhile and I have gone on a few.

1) Tradewinds Cruise Club- Amazing experience loved it and only compared it to their rental rates. Exchanging was the way to go and I am planning on doing another since it's been more than 4 years.

2) Melia Paridisus Punta Cana- We went with another couple. They got a package deal through a Travel agent. We exchanged through RCI and after comparing all of our costs to what they paid we saved about a $1,000.

3) Sandals Ocho Rios ( was Beaches Grande when we went) Great AI fee and we saved more than $1,000 on this trip over a package deal.

I am sure there are some other good deals but again most are way more than a regular package deal and you save your timeshare for another trade.

I have never tried II because they don't disclose fee until you are ready to book which I really don't understand. With RCI the AI fee is always disclosed before you decide whether or not you are interested. Makes a lot more sense than II's method.:crash:
