Hello everone,

Well, we are inching closer to our stay at the Ritz Carlton on St. Thomas. I searched TUG and did not come up with a recent thread regarding taxi service from the airport to the hotel. We will be spending a few nights at the hotel prior to checking in at the timeshare.

What is the least expensive way to reach the hotel? I would like to book it in advance if possible.

Thank you all in advance,
Tom

We rented a car this past January but only after figuring out that taxis charge per person, and there were 6 of us. The Ritz is considerably farther from the airport than Frenchmen's and I think taxi for 2 from the airport was about $40 + tip. I'm sure others have more specifics, recent examples...

With current rental car rates approaching insanity in some parts of the world, if it were us staying at The Ritz-Carlton Club, St. Thomas, we'd shop for the best rental car rate that we could find at Cyril E. King International Airport, give consideration to gasoline costs on STT, identify any parking fees at The Ritz-Carlton Club, St. Thomas, and compare the costs of a rental car vs round trip taxi or car service, between the airport, and The Ritz-Carlton Club, St. Thomas.

The Ritz-Carlton Club, St. Thomas is in a fairly isolated location, in terms of restaurants, supermarket, etc, so, having a rental car, may provide you with some freedom to move around the island. Taxi costs, to and from restaurants, quickly add up.

TUGgers are correct that the cost of taxis will add up quickly both for the airport transfer as well as just routine travel to beaches and restaurants. Additionally, if you want to private Taxi, that won’t be cheap either. But if you’re going to the Ritz Carlton I would consider it because this way you won’t be the last stop with a number of stops in between and after a long flight, Thursday to get into the property.

There will be someone there guiding you to taxis, and if you do want to private taxi make sure you are clear about that point. They will assume that you want a shared taxi. Enjoy your trip!

Best,

Greg

We went to the Ritz last fall and took a shared ride shuttle which we found outside the airport. On the return we took a taxi. Taxis can be expensive - shared ride was more reasonable and still pretty fast.

I found a private taxi service for $65 for airport transfers to and from the Ritz to STT. Seemed reasonable if you want private.

Thank you all for the replies. We wind up taking a shared taxi. $40 per couple. Ride was about 30 minutes (we were the 3rd stop).

We were there in June and opted to go the taxi route. I think this link shows the information on taxi rates:

My opinion? Rent a car. This RC is stunning but in somewhat remote location. There’s a lot to do in ST including spectacular beaches, Charlotte Amalie, etc. Taxi fare can get expensive. Not sure if UBER is available. If you do rent a car, remember to drive on the left like they do in London. Have a great time.
