Traveling from NY, through Atlanta, GA, to Cancun, Mexico.

At which points do you go through Customs?

I know on the RETURN trip, you get customs in Atlanta, GA (in my case), so I want to allow like 2-3 hours layover there.

But what about on the way down? Customs in Mexico?

If so, how long does it take to get through there?

thanks!

You do immigration and customs in the Cancun airport. How long depends on the time of day. If your flight arrives mid-day or afternoon with lots of other flights, I think it's about 45 minutes plus or minus. If you arrive quite early or late, you can zip through in 15-20 minutes. The longest part is the wait for immigration, then you pick up your luggage, and then the customs part itself is pretty quick - maybe five minutes. Fortunately it's well organized - just keep walking and you'll hit each part in turn, and eventually end up in the area with the vans.

It also depends on the day of the week. Saturdays are the WORST....most of the timeshares start/end on Saturdays, so the airport is very crowded.
