I'm curious to hear from some of our knowledgeable TUG members about how something like this could happen. How could a regularly scheduled trans-Atlantic flight depart and not receive clearance to land?

Note: some stories on this incident say that the plane turned back after 7 hours in the air. That is not correct - the plane turned back about three hours into the flight, so that the total time in the air was nearly 7 hours.

From what I have read, the only one who stated they were denied landing clearance was a passenger. That passenger could be right or maybe they just wanted 15 minutes of fame. Air France has stated “operational issue”.

Before posting maybe you could do some research and find out what actually happened.

I did. I posted because nothing I got to my questions.

Seems to me this was a "Operational Issue" as stated by Air France. If it were a "Denied Clearance", the reason would have been all over the Press, YouTube, Facebook, ad nauseun. Odd that they were past mid point and returned, but that could have been due to stronger westerly winds aloft making it longer to get to O'Hare than Paris. No clue why they would not have diverted to Boston or New York if O'Hare wasn't appropriate for some reason.

International passengers are screen for Passports, Visa and other documents before boarding a flight to the United States.

Your luggage is double check for contrabands items.

French security does not play. IMHO. They are armed and loaded.

The Title of this thread is still incorrect.

and yet your headline repeated a probably incorrect rumor from a LOL source instead of asking a question. The decay continues

fair enough - though I did make a point of NOT linking to one of the many stories that said the plane flew all the way back to Paris after 7 hours in flight to Chicago.
