Who has gone to an AI resort and how much have you paid per person per day? How have you justified the cost?

I have a few timeshares at Dreams Cabo. The all-nclusive rate is $50 to $70 a day per person. I think it is the best deal.:whoopie: They have 24 hour a day room service, 5 a-lacart resturants. The bars are open from 10am to 1am. Sounds like a sales pich, but I love the resort.

$308. per day (for the both of us) at the Palace Resorts - We have been to Moon and Aventura, and they were both worth every penny!! 24 hour room service, multiple restaurants and bars/lounges, entertainment and AI fee also included tours to Chichen Itza, Tulum, Coba, Ek-balam, Isla Mujeres, Paradise Sail & Snorkel, and Wet & Wild Water Park. Tours included all transportation, and lunches.

In 2006, we paid $60 per person at Dreams in Los Cabos. It was well worth the cost. Don't know if we could still get that deal if we traded in. It was so beautiful and we loved every minute of it.

We've only been to Cancun once and it was at a resort that did charge an AI fee but the deal we got through Travelocity was flat rate w/o the AI fee. We paid $110/night and had full access to everything as though we had paid the AI fees . . . 24/7 dining, unlimted cocktails, availability of dining once per day in one of their four (or five?) gourmet restaurants (vs. the buffets). The amenities were not necessarily five star (no golf or spa services) but for $110 on the beach right in the tourista zone, it was perfect and a great deal. It was a great eleven days!

I would never pay an AI fee, timeshare or otherwise!

Please name a few of the most family friendly resorts AI and non AI.

We would not want to stay at a Palcereosrt because to my understanding they do not have locksoffs. When we travel with our kids we always want a 1 or 2 bedroom.

We own at Grand Mayan and Club Regina. We can not uwse our Grand Mayan during peak holiday time when we like to take the kids sowe usually bank our Club Regina with RCI and take them during winter or spring break.

We want there to bre lots of activities for them to do on their own/kids club/ great shows at night

Does anyone know if I do a direct exchange with a member at Grand Velas or Club Velas if I getthe member rate for AI??? The RCI rate is very $$$$$$

We are hoping to one day get an exchange in PDC/ Riviera Maya or Puerto Moreles. Xcaret resort and Marina El Cid both look very nice

lovemylabradoodle,
I can answer for Velas Vallarta. Yes, guests of Velas members get the members rate for the AI. The AI is not manditory for them just an option.
We have rented our Velas unit a couple of times and our renters saved more on the AI than they paid in rent.

Bahamas and PV

We've stayed at two A/I resorts, both just 3 star, decent but not fancy - and we loved the experience. Especially with kids, an A/I is perfect. Some adults actually enjoy the restaurant experience - just sitting and relaxing, taking time over a meal - but my kids HATE that! To them, a meal is a place to consume fuel so they can get back in the water.

The first stay was at the Viva (now Wyndham) resort on Grand Bahama Island. It runs about $215 per ROOM per night (give or take $40 depending on season). We loved it. The second was in Nueva Vallarta, the Samba by Pueblo Bonito. It is VERY inexpensive. ($69-100?) It is not up to PB standards by any means, but the accomodations are decent, the pool and beach are great, the kids club satisfactory (meaning my son would rather be there than with us, usually:D ) and the staff was incredibly nice.

At both resorts, the food was at least tolerable. The fruit was excellent, the "custom" food great (taco bar, omelett station, etc.) and the other entrees OK for 3-4 days. For a longer stay, insert an off-campus restaurant visit mid-stay to break up any monotony.

There are reviews for both these resorts, I believe, on the TUG board.

Enjoy!

Dave

Have stayed at many resorts AI, of course better AI rates if member than thru RCI or such. We have paid anywhere from $45/p/pd to $150/p/pd.

We feel we get our monies worth....between bottled water and sodas and such pollside and in room, as well as alcholic drinks and meals, we have been mostly pleased with the AI at the places we have gone. We even go out and skip a few meals.

We have done this all over different parts of Mexico and have been happy.

It is all a personal choice and of course the more expensive the AI usually the better quality but not always, as the part of mexico also plays into this.

Good luck!

We have stayed at Grand Velas in Nueve Vallarta. $150 per night per person.

Our favorite is El Dorado Royale in Puerto Morelos. Don't be drinking anything when you read this. Depending on the level of accomodations: the cost is $250-$500 per person per night. But it's 5* and the most unbelievable resort I've ever stayed at.

We liked it so much, we traded our ownership in Wyndam Sea Garden in Pompano Beach for ownership down there.

For that kind of money, it would need to be Tasmahl, or Buckingham Palace,

and include 24 hour a day servants that were there anticipating our needs before we even realized them:rofl:

We own a nice home and we spend 6 to 8 weeks a year traveling to our various timeshares, and the Grand Mayan 2 bedrooms we own the annual fees are $828 per week, so @ $375x2=$750x$5250 per week, I have around $4422 to spend:hysterical: to equal your AI cost.

Thanks, I think we will continue to suffer spending around $1000 per week . Greg

I wasn't trying to tell you to go. Just responding to the thread. But, yes, for the $5200 we got a butler, our own private swimming pool, 2 massages each, and other benefits.

But we also exchange for non-AI resorts and don't pay that either.

At $150 per night at Grand Velas you got a great deal, it is much higher now even in slow off season, well at least thru RCI, and even if I upgrade over from Club Velas....I hear, yet have yet to stay at Grand Velas but hear it is wonderful.

Oh I forgot I have also heard the El Dorado Royale is incredible! Hey if you can afford it and it includes pampering and all I say go for it, if not, well there are many others that are much cheaper as well....The AI's in Mexico run the gamut!!!

We stayed at the Club Velas last spring break it was 150 per night per person 75 for kids THen last year we purchased a Non AI resort It really depends on your family life stlye and sometimes it comes down to quality vs quanity It is safer to do AI in Mexico but you really dont get theexperience of the area the great little places to eat I dont really think the AI arer really worth it well at least not at 150 a day and I am looking forward to going where i can eat at different places

Hi TS Von

Was the $110/night per person?

Nope - that was the total price per night for the two of us, including resort AI. This was at Caribbean Village which was a timeshare/hotel mixed use which we found and reserved through either Orbitz or Travelocity about a month before our trip. (This was May 2004.) I say "was" because it was one of the resorts destroyed by the hurricane there a couple of years ago. I believe they've since rebuilt and reopened.

Here is the journal/review I wrote on it: http://www.igougo.com/journal-j32396-Cancun-Cancun_--_We_FINALLY_Did_It.html#1201887 . In the review I wrote that it was booked via Orbitz, but looking back on it, I'm pretty sure it was via Travelocity.
