Advice needed on maintaining titanium status at 75 nights or not? Is Marriott discontinuing this elite benefit?

Ok, so I was advised by a Marriott agent last night that titanium status is being discontinued after December 31. I have been titanium for several years. As of December 31, I will obtain lifetime platinum. I will have 68 nights after adding several vacations between now and December to keep the status. The agent said that it wasn't necessary for me to go past the 50 nights to reach 75 as titanium. Was he correct? I added a getaway for Orlando yesterday that was $100 off. Btw, that sale ends in two days. When I called II this morning to cancel the getaway, of course they would not allow me to cancel.
I checked for information on The Points Guy today, but did not find any mention of the titanium status being discontinued. Is it worth it for me to book another week in December to reach the 75 nights, or stay at 68.? I do understand the difference in the two levels of status. Is it worth it?

Titanium Elite status is still alive and well on Marriott.com and NerdWallet, too, and I don't remember any announcements that it will be ending.

There are a couple things that might have that sales rep confused: one, since 2018 it's no longer possible to earn Lifetime Titanium status, and two, during the COVID years Marriott granted extensions of year-over-year status without the Stay Nights requirement but that ends this year.

I've earned Titanium this year and received my free night. I'm not sure going forward, but haven't heard anything.

I think he meant YOUR titanium status ended, not the program.
You have yearly status that you earn yearly and can change each year.
And you have lifetime status that you maintain regardless of the number of nights you earn in a year.

I think you had yearly titanium status because of the number of nights you earned last year (or carryover from covid as Sue suggests) and that you are lifetime platinum.
If you don’t earn enough nights to renew your yearly titanium for next year you lose that and assume whatever your earning dictates. But you remain lifetime platinum. Personally I wish they had used different names for the yearly and lifetime levels- it gets confusing.

If you log on to Marriott and click activity under your profile and then details under your nights it will spell out your status and then you can click to see your benefits. If you click over view under the benefits tab will show you what you would get at the other levels. There’s not much difference between platinum and titanium- 48 hr guarantee, an 2nd annual choice benefit and more bonus points on hotel purchases. I personally don’t pay any attention to my yearly or strive for titanium.

II getaways are final sale but you can buy a guest certificate to give the trip to family or friends.

If Titanium Elite was going away I would expect The Points Guy and other points followers to go nuts. There would have been announcements long before now. Does your Marriott rep have a source they can further cite?

I called the titanium/platinum line at Marriott last night. I wanted to see if I should book another week in December to bring my total nights to 75. That's when the advisor said titanium elite was being discontinued and not to bother adding another week to reach 75. Since I will have platinum lifetime as of the end of December, what I wanted to know is if I should stay at 68 nights or add 7 to reach titanium? At this point, I will probably just add another week in Orlando back to back for 14 nights on the same airfare.
I think that the rep was confused.

Do you need the few added benefits that you get at titanium vs your life time platinum?
Not that I’m trying to dissuade you from taking a longer vacation!

I’m sitting at 79 YTD. nights so far for the year. I haven’t gotten to select my titanium benefit yet.

Personally I don’t find much difference between Platinum and Titanium. But I doubt they would discontinue Titanium.

Room upgrades are scarce and both get lounge access. Late checkout isn’t always honored at hotel properties. The only real recognition I’ve had recently is that they did give me a free upgrade to a 1 BR suite at a Gaylord Resort in DEN last month (ironically after declining my SNA request for the same room type).

Have you selected your choice benefit for 50 nights yet? I went into my wife's account and see the option for her to select her 50-Night Choice Benefit on the Overview tab about halfway down. We will just wait till she hits 75 in the next few weeks and do them both at the same time.

Yep. Grabbed some more SNA! We will see if they let me use them. I’m going to throw some business to Hyatt and Hilton for the remainder of the year.

My wife just hit Titanium and elected her benefit (went with the free night).

We joined you in your irony 3 times last year, but not at the Gaylord. They did return our SNA credits, but that does little good if they never let us use them.
