Advice for Marriott’s Barony Beach on Hilton Head

We have reserved a 2-bedroom villa at Marriott’s Barony Beach Club in mid-October.

We recently received an email from Marriott inviting us to list our preferences for villa location.

There 6 in our party: two grandparents, two parents and two preschoolers ages 3 and 1.

I booked a Garden View villa because I believe it closer to the children’s pool, but we are open to suggestions and still have time to make changes depending on advice anyone has to offer.

If we stick with a Garden View villa, our options are the Gardenia or the Jasmine buildings. Which would you recommend and why?

For about $10 a night more, we could change to an Ocean Side Courtyard View villa (ocean front villas are unavailable). If we make this change, our building options would be Bayberry, Live Oak, Morning Glory and Sea Oat.

Would you recommend making this change -- why or why not?

Do you have any recommendations regarding floor (low, middle or high) or about proximity to elevators, stairwell or near the check-in building?

This is our first trip to Hilton Head, so any advice will be welcome.

We also are looking for restaurant suggestions—family friendly, good food but not high end for this trip with little ones.

I would swap to ocean side. Go to the Marriott board and see the sticky on resort maps. You will see that the garden view buildings are on the other side of a parking lot from the rest of the buildings. The ocean side buildings flank the courtyard that includes the pools and leads to the beach. Plus the main building with the marketplace and indoor pool are there. Garden View rooms are bigger, and you have two queens in the second bedroom, but that's about it. I'd say that your ability to be closer to the beach is worth the $10.

i would stick with the garden view villas. the pools at this section are great for kids. as far as resturants, jme has a great list

I'm with Big Matt. Plus, the Oceanside units are more convenient to the indoor pool.

Are the bedrooms the same in both the Garden View and Courtyard View units?

My husband and I will take the bedroom with one king bed while our son's family will be together in the other bedroom, so we want the most comfortable configuration for them (two adults and two young children).

We are hoping the weather will be nice so that we can enjoy being outdoors with our two preschoolers (almost 4 and almost 2). Our daughter-in-law thought it might be better to be in a villa close to the children's pool. We have looked at the maps, but don't really have a good sense of distances and other features around the grounds.

We will be there mid October from a Wednesday through Monday. What can we expect re weather, crowds, etc.?

The garden view rooms have a 2nd Jacuzzi tub in the guest bedroom. I believe they are larger due to this. The garden pool is very nice with a zero entry feature, water slide, and next to the pool is a splash area. There is a gas campfire close by also. I do not believe this pool is heated and may be cooler depending on weather. You can get to the ocean through a back gate and along side the Westin so not much further then Courtyard rooms.

The grill area is great and is a very nice outdoor kitchen set up. Ping Pong table and television in the area.

It is a short walk across the Westin drive way to get to the main complex. Check in desk, work out room, indoor pool, and outdoor pool is in this area. As you go towards ocean campfire area, outdoor grills, shuffle board followed by All y'all food area and beachside pool.

I believe you will enjoy any areas. It might be nice to be close to indoor pool and workout area if the weather is cool. I would not be disappointed in the Garden section either. Barony like all the HHI beachfront Marriott resorts we have stayed at are great.

Unless there is a tropical storm/hurricane the weather in mid-October should be awesome. The ocean will be cool/cold, but outside temps should be great. Terrific weather for walking on the beach, biking, exploring.

When I was there last year, the hot tubs closest to the beach were the best. Very hot and the jets were raging. So, if you are a hot tubber and not so much an inside with screaming kids at the pooler, consider this.
