It's now about 3 weeks since advertising started to change due to the current crisis. I find myself playing mind games -- if I took part in a Twilight Zone focus group six months ago where they showed us ads that would be on TV in spring of 2020, would I figure out what the issue was? Some ads are subtle --"while our stores are closed...". Others close with "stay safe". A Facebook ad says "one world together at home". McDonald's says it will see us at the drive-thru. Papa John mentions its pizza never being touched by human hands after it comes out of the oven. Car ads tout home delivery. I think it would take me several ads (say the focus group showed 1/2 covid ads mixed with 1/2 ads that needed no changes which I feel like is the ratio I see on TV) to even be aware there was an issue of any kind. Then I would have been more apt to think terrorist attack long before I'd think pandemic.
