Have any of you ever rented from Advantage at the Phoenix Airport and what was your experience? We booked a full size car and when we went to get it they had none. They offered us a van for more money (I feel bait and switch). The next car they gave us was a diesel which we did not want. There next step was the diesel again with $50 off our 2 week rental and it is still not considered a full size so again I feel (bait and switch). We had already seen several people that just rented and then came back inside to switch because they too did not want a diesel. When we talked to 2 different employees one said 50% were diesel and the other person told us 80% were diesel.
Am I correct in feeling this is bait and switch? Rental was done several weeks ago and nothing ever showed diesel. How would you have handled this? We could have gone with another company when we found this out (we had already been in line for 45 minutes.
I will never use Advantage again and am thinking of contacting the Attorney General of Arizona about bait and switch.

I had read reviews on Advantage and so decided not to use them when I had that as a choice.

Just curious -- why are you so adamantly against driving a diesel vehicle? I've had diesel rentals many times (mostly in Europe, but some in the US), and they drive the same as a gas-powered vehicle: step on the accelerator to go and the brake to stop. Only difference from a driver point of view is you have to grab a different hose at the gas station.

Sometimes it's the availability of diesel fuel. Not all stations provide it.

Wow. I can't remember seeing a service station that did not have diesel.

When we moved here 6 years ago we needed to rent a truck to assist the movers. It had to be returned with a full tank, of diesel fuel. We had to search around to find a station.

I'll stick with the majors... Hertz, Avis, Alamo, National, Budget
and maybe Dollar... which I just used in Phoenix with no issues.
I had a negative experience with Thrifty in Las Vegas.

A few reasons starting with diesel running .40-.50 higher per gallon and we find diesel still louder then reg gas vehicles. The other reason is finding stations that carry diesel.

So sorry:( I don't know Advantage. Before I moved here, Sixt was the new kid and I think I rented from Fox? Of course I've had good experiences with all the rest.

I love it when you book your car on-line you select a full size and they say similar to Chevy Impala, etc, then when you get there they want to stick you with a Toyota Corolla.

I realize your post was specifically about Advantage & diesel vehicles .

FYI - Phoenix Airport rentals are significantly higher cost than off airport .
2013 & 2014 we flew into Phoenix & drove a rental to Puerto Pensaso/ Rocky Point MX.

We used Enterprise both times because they offered Mexican Vehcle Insurance ( required by Mexico)
We saved (as I remember) $ 300 the 2nd year on a 10day rental - by renting off airport .

I like being an Emerald Aisle member with National because you book a mid-size and then you just pick a vehicle from their Emerald Aisle vehicles. The last time in Phoenix, I got an SUV. In Alabama, they gave me a BMW X3.
