Adding points to inherited Wyndham timeshare

I have read through many other posts, but couldn't find the exact answer I'm looking for. We have recently inherited a Wyndham timeshare with 430+k points. This is to be split between 5 siblings and all want to keep and share it. (I know that may not sound like a good idea). I'm wondering if it would be possible to buy extra points on the re-sale market and add them to what we currently have and keep the same 'status' of VIP (Silver i think)? We were recently went to a resort in Myrtle beach and attended a 'presentation' but couldn't get this question answered. Any advice?

I don't have the answer, but, before those with more experience can give a most educated response, you will need to share more information. Like how is the ownership currently titled, ie., individuals, trust, LLC, etc.? Where you do own?

As a Wyndham forum reader / non owner - I will answer what I can & leave the details to the Wyndham experts.

1) - you can add resale points , and they will work with your Silver status .
if you want Platinum - you will need some developer purchase of points .

2) Jointly use the account - do not “ split it up” or you will loose Silver Status

3) there are ways to get any family member not on the inherited contract onto it - so you do not have to buy guest certificates

4) There is a thread the Wyndham forum - from last week that has a lot of information that will help
you . It was started due to a similar “ inheriting “ question.

5) I live in Canada - lots of folks here figure out how to “split / share family cottages .
My grandfparents bought a cottage on Lake Huron about 1940 . It is still in the family and there are young children visitors , who are the 4th generation post my grandparents ( who past away in 1960 & 1974 )
Family Vacations are worth it - especially when a parent or grandparent initiated the ownership.

Yes you can buy resale points and have them added to your account. When you buy you will need to make sure you provide the closing company with your Wyndham member number to get them added to your account. It wouldn't be necessary to add everyone's names to the resale deed either as long as at least one of you was on it. You could add someone else like one of your spouses or adult children. Make sure you give the closing company copies of the driver's licenses of everyone you want on a particular resale deed.

I always advise looking for resale deeds that have low maintenance fees. There is a sticky at the top of the page showing the maintenance fees at most of the resorts. You can pick up some great deals for very little money here on TUG and on eBay too.

As has been mentioned, don’t split the account into smaller chunks. It may not even be possible if it is one contract.

You can have all the siblings added to the deed, or you can set up a trust as the owner, to retain VIP status. Wyndham MAY require you to have a regular owner name as co-owner with the trust, but you’ll have to sort this out with Title Services before you get any paperwork is begun.

Resale contracts can be added to the membership; just remember that at least one name needs to be common with the existing membership.

I have an answer...any points purchased on the secondary market only count towards accommodations NOT VIP status...if you guys split up the points evenly (86K each...430K split 5 ways) then each will have to have at 400K points to be Silver VIP...any points purchased on the secondary market will not count towards VIP

Wow, thank you for the informative answers so quickly. And I even heard what I was hoping to hear.

Just a little correction to that answer. Your resale points will also get VIP benefits, as far as the upgrades and discounts, but will not count towards the next level of VIP. Your use of Club Pass to make a $99 reservation at Worldmark is limited to the developer points.

By the way, reservations made in the name of any travelers listed as owners on the account do not require a guest confirmation. If you need multiple rooms at the same time, you will need multiple confirmations. They call these overlapping reservations and they are subject to cancellation if they are listed under the same name. So if only one owner were listed on the account and you needed multiple rooms at the same time, you would need guest confirmations for the other rooms. They cost $99 each. If more of you are listed as owners, you can have separate reservations in each owner's name (who will be part of the travel party) and avoid the need for a guest confirmation. If you are all listed on the account, it should increase the flexibility and save you some hassles if you need multiple units or if only some of you are travelling.

If there are counterindicators to listing you all on the account, I am not aware of them. There is an expense any time you change the title, so adding someone after the fact incurs a fee. If you update the title all at once to include all of you as owners, it can probably be done for just the one title change charge.
