We had a reservation next May for 4 nights at Waihaoi and decided to add a 5th night. I called and had the agent add the additional night. It took a while, but the agent added the extra night without issue.

Later i logged into my account and saw that i now have two reservations, one for 4 nights and a second a single night. I could have done that myself online.

I was expecting them to change the reservation to a single 5 night reservation.

Is it typical for the call center to just create an additional reservation or was the agent just lazy? My only concern with two reservations would be if wanted to us to change rooms.

We have added nights to reservations multiple times and every time, they have created a 2nd reservation. When we get the email about our upcoming stay, we have emailed back that we have 2 reservation numbers. We've never had to move rooms but a few times, the room keys had to be taken down to the front desk to get them recoded after the first reservation 10 AM check out time. We also get two bills, which is silly but isn't really a problem.

Tell them to cancel both and rebook. Or, see if you can book 5 days online and then call and cancel the other 2 ressies. Never assume what they will do. If you expected them to make it a single 5 day, then, there would have been no harm mentioning it.

Only thing to keep in mind, though it may not matter much at Waihaoi, is that the reservation date for your four days may give you priority over the date you get rebooking as a new reservation.

At MOC Maui that date can be important, but when I did a lockout Room Control told me to just let them know and they would treat both as the original date and not the new date from the lock-off transaction.

I told them i needed to change the reservation from 4 days to 5, by adding one day to the end. Never occurred to me that they would just create new ressie, but will know for the future.

The dates i need are no longer available online, so I would not be able to rebook this one online.

Seems like the option would be call and try to get them to rebook, or just fredward suggestion to alert the resort in advance to keep the the ressies together. Obviously easier for the resort to avoid the extra cleaning for a room change.

Years ago I was told that if they cancel the first reservation to add a day or two it might go to someone else who was waitlisted, before it could be rebooked for us. So I order to not lose our reservation, they do it this way. This was several years ago, not too long after the DC started up, so I am not sure if this is in effect now.

What’s interesting is this year we had an exchanged week from II and added a day or two with points. Therefore we had two reservations. A couple of days before check-in, I saw in my account that the II week reservation was cancelled. I freaked a bit and called to see what had happened. I was told they combined them into one reservation at the resort. I guess this makes it easier for them when scheduling so many reservations..but it would be nice if they would tell you..:wall:

You tell the resort you have 2 ressies. While you may have to move, I never have yet.

The way you do the rebook is book the 5 days first, then cancel the 4 day and 1 day, therefore, there is no risk. If there is no inventory, you can't do that obviously. I have heard, they can cancel, hold, and rebook but have not tried it myself.

Lately, when they send out the pre-stay preference emails, they seem to have options to enter multiple reservations, or I put it in the notes. But it is possible you'll have to move, just not too likely. I also had success years ago calling the resort, as mentioned by normab, they combined them for me to avoid any issue.

If they are the same room type, email rooms control at the resort and ask them to combine reservations.

Thanks for the feedback. I will contact the resort when its closer to our trip and ask that they combine the reservations, or at least note that we have two sequential reservations.

I believe the only options for Waihoai are Island or Ocean view, and both of our reservations are for island view so that should not be an issue.

If asked to do so they will LINK the two reservation numbers.

Call the 800 number and ask them to "link" the two reservation numbers. Then notify the resort a week or two before you arrive that you have two "linked" reservation numbers to be sure you will not have to move to a different villa.

I am going thru this issue right now and I will see the results when I check in tomorrow night. Hopefully we will be in good shape.

What I have done several times in the past is on Marriott.com, under my trips, view reservation, room details, “any special needs or requests” I write link reservation number...

This worked just last month.
