I rented nights made with DC points and now need to add the renter’s information to the MVC reservation. What are your suggestions for adding this information while keeping control and complying with Redweek policy? It has been a few years since I have rented, and I did not find my answer on an initial search of the forum. Thanks for your help.

Add them at Marriott.com

1.) Log into your Marriott.com account
2.) Click on My Trips
3.) Find the reservation and click Details
4.) Click VIEW/MODIFY
5.) Click Guest Information
6.) Update name with the Renter and click submit
7.) Marriott will e-mail you a copy of the updated reservation with the new name on it.

You need to call MVC owner services to cleanly transfer the reservation to your renter name. MVC will ensure that your bonvoy number and other personal details are removed. Doing it directly on marriott.com will not remove your bonvoy number.

Why do you need to remove your Bonvoy number #? No issues with well over 100+ rentals the last 4 years on Redweek changing the name per instructions above. I have had a few times where I received credit for the nights and points for the stay. Most renters change the details at check in. Calling Marriott is a pain in the a$$ and a waste of time in my opinion when you can do it online.

Thank you vol_90. Does this approach remove you (the owner) entirely from the reservation? Do you loose control if the renter were to not live up to the contrac?

I maintain control of the reservation. I have had multiple instances where the renter name had to be changed (mostly due to timing of arrival). We had one earlier this month for Ko Olina check in Jan. 2nd where the renter ended up with Covid, unable to travel and needed another party in their group on the reservation for check in. They sent a request through Redweek messages requesting a change which I did through my Marriott.com account. The updated reservation was then forwarded back to Redweek, they checked in and I have received payment.

Even if the renter updates the Bonvoy number and you no longer see it in your Marriott.com account the reservation is always attached to your MVCI account number. In this instance a call to MVCI Owner Services would be required to change the name.

The Jan. 2022 Ko Olina reservation was booked using 2023 borrowed points. Won't pay MF's until January 2023;)

I call up Marriott Reservations and have them add the renter as a second check in guest. 75 percent of the time they do it. The other 25% they tell me to go to MVCI. In the 25% scenario, I use Marriott.com which replaces my name instead of adding a name. In either case I do not add name until payment in full. Sometimes I get nights credit if the renter does not have a Bonvoy number since mine is in the reservation. I do not know why, it happens, but it does. The key of not having a problem isn’t how you do the switch. It is dong your due diligence on the renter. Give me name and email address, and in 10 minutes I can find out a lot about a person by doing a google search. Information on FB, LinkedIn, address and sometimes even job information sometimes pops up. Couple this with speaking to,the person and you often get a very good comfort level.

I do it through Marriott.com. So much easier than calling MVC. I use my own detailed agreement between owner and renter, and DocuSign for the execution. Yes, they can see your Bonvoy number.

I have also used Bonvoy website to change name. Once I receive the new confirmation I forward it to the renter.

HOWEVER, I cut everything below the necessary information, including the box that says “modify/cancel” AND Bonvoy information.
