Access to Abound is up!

This has been a very helpful thread so far. Thank you for everyone who has contributed.

Question: if I want to add to my ownership through resale Vistana to add to my ownership and have it add to this new Abound partnership, is it still possible, now that it is past the August 2022 deadline? If not possible, what happens to resale weeks from Vistana mandatory resorts purchased today?

Thank you.
What we understand at this point is, if you buy additional VSN eligible VOIs they can still use VSN StarOptions but they don't have access to elect Abound Club Points. It also seems that they will have an additional VSN Fee. So you would be paying the Abound Club Fee on your eligible weeks and the VSN Fee on the post 8/9 resale week.

Thank you for your responses, @byeloe and @dioxide45.

I'll be headed to WKORV in March, so it sounds like a good time for a refresher.

I also have my 2023 use year booked into two summer weeks at WKORV and WKORV-N that I might consider canceling so that I can try playing with the Abound system, if I can find some fun destinations that match my 6th grader's school schedule.

It worked perfectly for me. I deposited my WKOVRN week and got 8325 points. Then I booked 3 nights using about 3000 of those points back into WKOVRN to match up with my 9N at MOC. To me, even though those 3N are expensive, it fit my vacation plans perfectly.

This is 5 months in so it would follow the rules people are complaining about. I do not want to debate the rules or that Marriott is evil. I really do not care how it works. I just do what I can to get what fits my vacation plans.
I am new to Abound. Can you explain more exactly how you booked and only used the 3,000 points when you received 8,325 points.

every night has a point value, which you can find on the published charts or on the mvc booking site. those particular 3 nights were approx 3000 points, which leaves the remaining points available to book something else

You only use the points you need for the booking. Then you use the left over points for something else. You can also bank the left over points.

We're still learning the ropes of Abound and am hoping someone can help me clarify a few things.
We have a 2BR WKV purchased via resale a few years ago (pre-Abound), worth 148,100 star options (mandatory resort).
We did an owner's presentation last winter in Cancun, and the rep told us since we purchased re-sale we are not eligible for converting to ClubPoints, and he essentially tried to get us to make a new purchase with the sales pitch that they'd make our previous ownership interest eligible for transfer, and that a new purchase would also push us into the 'Select' elite tier of the new program. We of course declined.

Here's my confusion: When I login to my Vistana dashboard, it shows me as already having Select status, and on the left side there is a link to elect club points, and when I click it, it does seem to give us the option to converting to 4000-some Club Points. Both last year and this year we did NOT elect to do anything, so we've just kept our StarOptions from what I can tell.

It seems the sales guy was just lying or misinformed. Can anyone confirm that with WKV resale we DO have access to ClubPoints? And that we truly are 'Select' level tier?
In re: Select tier- for the 13+/10+ month booking windows, that is only if we convert to and use ClubPoints, correct? Otherwise if keeping StarOptions we have our usual 12month home resort / 8 month other resort booking windows?

We have another trip planned soon and if we do another owners update I want to make sure I know our current status and can ask better questions. Is there much benefit to trying to buy up into Executive tier? Or to make any purchase to re-classify our former purchase as included in all-aspects of the new program (if that is even offered...)? Thank you!

I believe that if you closed on a purchase on a mandatory resort before Aug 2022 you are enrolled in Abound.

To echo everyone else.... the sales rep is a lying sack..... Congrats, You're WKV is in Abound as long as it was transferred into your account before 8/9/2022. Which is sounds like it was. Never give that back and do not buy more unless you need/want more. In that case, buy Club Points on the resale market

Thanks all! Appreciate all the help! I have more reading to do yet, but have those who have converted to ClubPoints found them useful or better in anyway? I know it's all about what we'll use, which is why for now we haven't even bothered to look into it. We are happy with our SOs. But just curious!

I've already booked stays using Abound that are of great value. But you do have to be judicious about what VOIs you elect and what you are using the resulting points for. With planning, it is a great additional option, but as with anything timeshare, going in without a good plan and taking the steps to execute it is just asking for disappointment.

If you are happy with using SO I would say stick with that unless you are going to an area without a Vistana property.

There are some specific use cases where it may make sense to convert; however, I have yet to come across any personally that would give us better value relative to what you have (and we are at the Executive level based on our VSN ownership).

This is admittedly a simplistic way to look at it, but all I can say is with our Vistana VOI’s we could have booked 10 nights in 2024 at Vistana properties. We converted 100% to Abound and now in 2024 we will be staying 10 nights at locations previously not available to us without going through II.
