Can anyone help me figure out the differences between these two tiers at the Acapulco location? Reviews I've read have me a bit confused.

I know it's supposed to be Grand Mayan >> Mayan Palace, but I've been seeing people review the MP has having better pools/access to the GM pools, and so on, unlike other locations where an MP guest only has MP-pool access and you need to be staying at the GM to access their pool.

Any help/adivce/tips on the Grupo Mayan Acapulco resort in general will also be gladly accepted!

Cheers,
V

I sort of answered this in your earlier post. The Mayan Palace is not on the beach, but is fairly new. I think it opened in October 2010. I was there in January 2011 and it was really nice. The pool is awesome and the lazy river is much better than the one at the GM. I also own at the Grand Mayan, but chose to stay at the MP on the last trip to Acapulco. There is a shuttle that will take you to the Grand Mayan where you can walk to the beach and snag a palapa.

The Grand Mayan is awesome, but right now, a huge portion of the pool has been blocked off, as have quite a few of the palapas on the north side of the resort where construction is going on. When I was there in Janaury 2011, they had demolished basically the entire resort that had been there in 1999 when we bought and the replacement buildings were in various stages of demolition and reconstruction. The Grand Mayan was still in great shape, but they have plans to build a Grand Luxxe in front of it in the space where the waterpark currently is. This waterpark is basically a lazy river and kids water play area. The GM is close to the beach. If you are an exchanger, you will most likely get a view of the golf course and not the beach. But, with a hotel unit at the GM, you will have a small deck with 2 chairs and a loveseat in the bedroom. If you are in a hotel unit at the MP, you will have a deck that is 2 feet wide and there will be 2 chairs in your bedroom.

The GM does not have anything that is extra special at Acapulco other than the fact that the units are larger & nicer, but the amenities are the same while the construction is going on.

Thank you!

I just bought an MP hotel unit and I'm trying to decide between some upgrade/special promotion offers I've been given when we go for the first time this year.
