was just notified that it is time to retake the class to maintain my insurance discount. i am wondering if any TUGGER has taken the ONLINE course instead of attending a class at a specific location.. if so, please tell me of your experience with taking it ONLINE.
TIA

I haven't, but I think I remember seeing some posts here from folks who had. As I recall the experience was positive.

I wish I remembered the details. I do know you have some time to finish the class. My daughter recently took the AARP class at an office ($19) (it was actually in one of our hospitals). I did not give her the option of doing it on-line because I thought she would never finish it.

If you don't have 4-6 hours to sit in one shot, I would do it on-line on your own time. Let us know how it works out if you do it.

How much is it worth?

I attended a class in order to get a discount.

It turns out that I already get some other discounts (package w. home insur, low-mileage discount, etc.).

So for me, the effect of getting the AARP class discount is about $ 3.50. Less than the cost of the class. :bawl:

They "say" it's about 10%. We shall see. I had already sent the payment in when I added my daughter. Once the certificate is in, the discount should be retroactive. I want to see if my refund is at least close to 10% of what I already paid through the year. I pay in full every six months.

I paid $774 for the remainder of what was left of my six month policy. Since the certificate will be effective about a month after that (when she took the class), let's see if I get more than my $19 I paid for the class.

Should know soon.

We took the AARP senior driver's discount online class. DH finished in a marathon 3-day weekend. I took it in a more leisurely fashion and finished in two weeks. It saved us about $180 a year for our two cars, even with our other discounts. The online version was a bit annoying in that you had to click every page to advance the program and the music was repetitive, but you could stop it at any time. It's worth checking with your insurance person to see if it makes a difference. I relearned a few things so it was worth it to me.

Had not heard anything so I called my agent's office. No discount on policy after my daughter took the class. Policy is under my name and hubby. Even though we have three cars and each of us is listed on one - there is no additional discount unless she has her own policy she would get it for herself.

So - I won't tell her she gave up a day's work and sat through a 6 hour class. Still worth to refresh her memory. Next time I know though and by next time - she could be off mine.

(DH and I get it since we also take the class).
