Among other things I use Spybot Search & Destroy on various occasions. I know there are other better choices pf programs out there. That is not the point of this posting. I am interested in finding out if any Tugger uses Spybot and if so with what success? I have a following question which I will ask of those Tuggers using Spybot Search & Destroy for removing Adware and other items which tend to slow down computers.

I used spybot years ago, I mean like 8+ years ago. That software is a relic, time to update buddy.

I have used SpyBot for years along with other anti-spyware software. To answer the previous post, the SpyBot engine has been updated several times. SpyBot has detected some spyware, bearing in mind that I have other software, as well as SpyBot running in real-time.

Spybot S&D is one of 4-5 anti spyware/.malware programs I utilize to keep things cleaned up. The most recent versions tend to find & correct issues and removing them helps so I still recommend it as a useful part of my toolkit vs rogue programs. h

How long does your Spybot take to do a system scan?

I agree but I use it in combination with other programs and it keeps finding items others miss. Hemcen the reason for keeping it.

Full scan about 45 minutes. I start it when I plan to be away for awhile.

The time it takes depends on your computer speed. On our old XP system it takes about 25 min., on DH's computer it takes about 15 min., and on my newer one it takes 10min. We also use Super Antispyware and Avira and all work extremely well together and have saved us problems.

Same here. I thought there was something wrong with the download. I had not used it for a long time and decided to update it. When I first did a full system scan, heck it took forever. I thought something was wrong. My old Spybot scan took 5 to 10 minutes max.

I guess, like you, I will do my Spybot scan when I have time on my hands. Thanks for the response.

On my original post I mentioned I knew there were better programs out there but I wanted to know more about the download time.

My computer was getting to run slower than usual so I decided to run Spybot and then Advanced Registry Optimizer 2010 and finally defraged the computer which it needed. The ARO 2010 found over 2000 errors in the first scan. Many of them were fragments from deleted programs which were still lying around the registry just slowing the computer down some. :crash:
