A new low for Worldmark By Wyndham

I just want to share an unpleasant check-in experience for Worldmark by Wyndham.

Before COVID, the check-in time was 4PM and the check-out was 12PM. The BOD changed that to 4PM check-in and 10AM check-out so housekeeping has more time to clean units, Worldmark came with a system to stagger the check-in times to help housekeeping so if you delay your check in by 1-3 hours, you get late check-out. So a 5PM check-in gets you an 11AM check-out, 6PM/12PM and 7PM/1PM.

I checked into the Worldmark Seaside resort yesterday. A day before my arrival, they texted us if we wanted a late check in and I accepted a 7PM check. It used to be 7PM or when the condo was ready.

We arrived around 4:30 and went to the front desk. I asked if the condo is ready. They checked and said it is being cleaned now. We will text you when ready.

We want to do some shopping and for a walk on the Promenade. Came back at 6PM and asked if the unit was ready.

The check in person said yes, but I cannot let you in until 7PM. I told her I accepted 7PM to work with the resort, but if the condo is ready and I am the owner, why wouldn't I check in now. How will this affect Worldmark if I check now or in one hour? Would this put more use to the unit?.

She stated that this is a new rule by the new resort manager Chris Cossio that came in 2 month ago. So I asked her how many times I was delayed in my check in at 4PM and got in my unit at 5 and 6PM and did not bargain with the front desk person to change my check out time. I was really upset about how you would let an owner just wait on the street while his condo is ready just to satisfy an unheard of rule.

Then the check in person started negotiating with me to move my check-out time to 12PM if she let me in at 6PM. I told her, I will not change the check-out and will put a complaint into this. This is not acceptable.

Just wanted to vent.

While you didn't like the answer, their negotiation in shifting of the checkout time to 12pm if you get into your unit at 6pm seems fair to me.

You accepted an offer for late checkin for a late checkout. So why even go to the Front Desk before 7pm. Who was trying to Game the system?

Is there a timeshare brand where owners might be treated in an above-average manner or even catered to?

I sure don't know the answer to that. I have been a timeshare owner for a very long time, and I am feeling like the companies make rules that we must abide by, even though they say we own and we pay MF's to own, but rules change on us.

The new Marriott policy for adding names had our daughter scrambling to add a name to a Sheraton deeded float week through the resort directly because Vistana is now managed by Marriott. Now we cannot add names a few days ahead. We have to add names weeks ahead. How did Marriott get to change a policy like that.

I don't really understand how we lost so much in that transition of Starwood to Marriott. Not only that, but now we cannot do anything on the phone on weekends. We also have shorter hours during the week to call. It's all so different.

I feel Marriott is better. I was at KoOlina May 6. Arrived 11Am and they let me in my room at 11.30 as it was ready.

Also in general I have no issue with Worldmark checking in early.

And by the way, it is 7PM or when the room is ready so I disagree with @geist1223 on that.

After leaving a nasty review as I was really unhappy, the resort Manager called and stated he will work on that issue going forward. So hopefully it works better in the future.

Marriott is better than WorldMark and Wyndham (anything managed by Wyndham), but Vistana/ Starwood was better than it used to be. Marriott's takeover has not been positive for those of us who have owned before Marriott. This is why I will never use my "Chairman's Club" Abound membership with my Westin weeks. I will use them 100% of the time.

Yes. We are treated exceptionally well in Mexico, from the moment we arrive to the moment we leave.

Worldmark treats us great and I have no complaints until I do. Worldmark has allowed us extra vehicles at times. They allowed my boat at Surfside and Discovery Bay, extra people in our unit during a storm that closed the roads, beach chairs at Kihei. Once on a family reunion at Seaside the staff provided us a beach fire with smores with one of the staff singing songs and taking a turn on guitar with us. Many times at the Camlin the staff showed true kindness while we or our guests were there for people in the Seattle hospitals. At Ocean Shores the staff set up the fire pit, games and outdoor bar area for our group during covid.

I get that its a bummer for a resort not to meet a members expectations. It has never happened to us at a Worldmark yet. I'm sorry for Sam's wait but is that really an issue to complain about ? I would speak to the manager to understand why it made a difference if they checked in now or an hour later. It could just be a young employee following or misunderstanding the stupid rules.

The problem I see here is that people would select the 7 pm check-in to get the latest checkout time, then show up at 4 pm, "Is my room ready?", and 5 pm, "Is my room ready?", and 6 pm, "Is my room ready?" uneccessarily adding to the check-in line, and creating a backlog for housekeeping with all the 1 pm checkouts.

This seems entirely fair considering you agreed to a 7 pm check-in and wanted to renegociate the check-in time to 6 pm because the unit was ready. If you consider the big picture, instead of just your personal situation, it makes sense, and it is nice the the resort is willing to offer some flexibility if the unit is available early, instead of "just leaving an owner on the street" at 6 pm, who agreed to a 7 pm check-in.

Consider this: Had you arrived at the agreed-upon check-in time of 7 pm, your room would have been ready, and you would have no reason to complain.

Is there a timeshare brand where owners might be treated in an above-average manner or even catered to?
Sure. At Diamond, normal check in is at 4pm or for Platinum owners like me, 2pm. I have quite often arrived at a resort I live near to at 10am to do pre-check in and then I'll sit by the pool till the unit is ready. Many times, my unit is ready at arrival or within an hour so I'm in the unit by 10-11am. Doesn't change my check out time at all.
