The hoax was beyond belief: Fast-food managers fooled by a caller into strip-searching Louise Ogborn. But it happened dozens of times across the U.S.

This happened in 2004. That doesn’t minimize it but there’s enough to be outraged about in current events without digging them up from the past.

Didn’t dig it up. It popped up today. While I knew this happened many years ago from reading the story I didn’t realize that nothing is really new about it. This is now posted on the story:

“Editor's note: The Courier Journal published this story Oct. 9, 2005. It is being republished after the original online file became corrupted. ”

In looking at how this all ended up, the young girl in the story was awarded $6.1M in a lawsuit against McDonalds. The McDonalds manager’s fiancé, Walter Nix, served 5 years in prison. Surprisingly, the caller suspect was acquitted of all charges.

I apologize, I didn’t word that very well. I really didn’t intend for that to be a criticism of you. I’m not in the publishing business but I did have a career in IT. I find it incredible that a file couldn’t be fixed without republishing it as if it were a new story.

It is good to know that someone suffered some consequences.
