A couple of questions for the Wyndham experts

We do not own, but are in line to inherit a significant ownership. A little less than 1.1, but grandfathered as platinum.

Q's:
Any experience with inheriting grandfathered VIP? Is it contractual or reliant on Wyndham's good will?

Is unlimited housekeeping in the original contract or just the way it was managed until it wasn't?

Assuming we're going to take it, is there any downside to adding our names now?

Are there any known complications or restrictions on inheriting an ownership, then going into Certified Exit later?

Can you take one contract and decline the other (the larger would keep us at silver)? Any experience if unlimited housekeeping would continue?

I assume you can't use Certified Exit on one contract but keep the other, true?

Sorry for the newbie questions, but I do appreciate any insights.

Thanks

I have not actually done this, but know someone who did, and all of their VIP statuses came with it, including unlimited housekeeping.

The downside in "adding your names now", is it would cost more than just doing the "tribute" transfer, which is either free, or close to it.

You can absolutely just transfer one contract should you choose. You wouldn't decline it, you would just have the person you would be receiving it from not transfer it to you. Keep in mind, your VIP level would depend on however many points you end up with.

As far as the tribute process being contractural, I don't think it is contractural, but Wyndham has a vested interest in keeping ownership steady, that way the MF and PF keep rolling in and they don't hhaave to bother with reselling whatever they had.

The question about unlimited housekeeping being contractual is also not true. VIP privilages and perks are not written into the contract and can change at any time. When Wyndham removed unlimited housekeeping, they made an announcement and it was pretty well known. They grandfathered in all the people who had it. They didn't have to, but they did. Again, they have a vested interest in not pissing of their VIP's who spent a ton of money for it

A bit more information. The Wyndham directory doesn't speak specifically of inherited ownership, it only refers to a family transfer. I assume that an inheritance would count as a family transfer, but I'm not sure. But in order to keep the VIP status and benefits you must be an "Immediate Relative". The current directory defines Immediate Relative this way.

“Immediate Relative” currently includes parents, spouses, domestic partners, siblings, children and grandchildren

Get your names added now! Going through the Tribute program later is such a major headache and in many cases it takes so long that a substantial amount of points, if not all the points, for that year are lost that you'd be paying the maintenance fees on. You cannot make or have reservations, or move points to a future use year while going through the process.

I don't know how much the maintenance fees are but unless you absolutely cannot afford them I would keep the Platinum VIP. If you went down to Silver it would cost a ridiculous amount of money to get back to even Gold. The Silver benefits don't even begin to compare to Platinum benefits. You'd be kicking yourself down the road for giving up the Platinum.

Are there any other family members or in-laws you could also add and share the account and maintenance fees with?

You would want this deeded as joint tenants with right of surviorship. When the original family member or members pass, many people leave them on to have the extra names to hold reservations. It's very useful to have extra names to put reservations in when you're trying to piece together stays, dates overlap, you're holding stuff but hoping to find the whole stay in the larger unit, etc.

If you aren't experienced with the system, you won't have a good concept of how many points you'll want and need. More than you think which is normal for new owners. If you're thinking you don't need that many points, it's almost certain that your needs will change/grow in time.

That grandfathered unlimited housekeeping is a huge deal! The 25% Silver discount vs 50% Platinum discount on the points needed for reservations within 60 days of check in is a BIG deal. The free upgrade on the unit size at 60 days vs 30 days is another BIG deal. Being able to deposit points into a future use year up until the last day of your use year vs only having the first six months of your use year to do it is another important benefit difference. Getting 5 free guest confirmations vs 15 might be important to you. It would be to many owners who send family and close friends to the resorts.

You could combine them into a Presidential. May have to add a few points, but you'll love the founders level VIP benefits.

The ownership is already presidential. There is zero chance we will buy more. I appreciate the suggestion but we're trying to figure out if we would, long term, use what's already there.
Thanks

What are the contracts in the account; deeded at specific resorts or Club Wyndham Access and how many points each?

You're saying the account is presidential?Maybe you misspoke? Do you mean there's a presidential reserve contract in the account? If so that would mean the main/big contract is at least 1M points. The only way Wyndham sells less than 1M PR contracts is if you already own a 1M point contract. PR owners are automatically Founders VIP without having to own 1.4M points. Founders get a 60% discount on reservations made within 60 days of the check in date.

If there's a PR contract in the account and you drop down to less than 1M points that's very problematic. If you have less than 1M PR points the only thing you can do with them is book your home resort.
