9 Passenger Van Rental

I'd like to rent a 9 passenger van to take from Cleveland, OH area to Daytona Beach and back. I'd need it for 9 nights.

Any ideas? Most of the websites I find are for 7 passenger or smaller vehicles. I've searched on '9 passenger rental vans' and get sites outside of Ohio (mostly NY and FL). When I narrow it down to Ohio I get a bunch of car rental companies (including Rent-A-Wreck) that don't show any inventory for larger than a 7 passenger.

I'm guessing I'll just have to get on the phone to these places. Would appreciate any other suggestions for finding something.

It's either this or take two cars (don't want to do that).

You might need to look at a UHaul or Rider-type place, or a limo company. Sometimes they have bigger passenger vans available for rent.

(Get a party bus, with neon lights on the floor! Make that trip to Daytona one you'll never forget! :D)

local new car dealership

I have had success with local auto dealers that sell used and new vans. Many times they have a 15 passenger van sitting.

I just did a search through Travelocity and it shows that Budget and Avis have full size vans. I just did a search for airport pickup at Cleveland airport. They seat 12!

Our golf trip crew (16 guys) has rented 12 passenger vans numerous times from the "name" (Hertz, National, Avis, etc.) rental agencies in smaller locales than Cleveland. You may need to call rather than use the net, however. I'm pretty sure we've called every time.

It is probably because you must have a class B license with a passenger endorsement. That is why you don't see them around very much anymore. The following is the vehicle code for California. I know you are talking about another state but I bet it is the same.

Bus Definition
6.2
Vehicle Code §233, defines a vehicle as a bus when it is designed, used, or maintained for carrying more than 15 passengers, including the driver.
Vehicles designed, used, or maintained for carrying more than 10 passengers, including the driver, which are used to transport persons for compensation or profit (for hire), or used by any nonprofit organization or group are also buses.
Operating a bus or van under the above definition requires the driver to obtain a passenger endorsement.
NOTE: Mechanics who service and test drive these buses must have a passenger endorsement.

As usual, I get great info from TUG posters.
