What happen when your electricity goes down or your internet goes down for more than 48 hours?

An electric doorbell from the 1920's will fail when power goes out, but a battery powered ring door bell using public wifi will still function fine. My nest thermostat will not work when there is no power, but my a\c wouldn't work either.

The only thing I needed to know about a smart home is I don’t need one :D

Cheers

My neighbors had lightning strike their house and it knocked out their home automation system. The main system had to be replaced at a cost of $35K. When they purchased their house the cost of the entire system was approximately $50K. It allows them to control their pool pump, security system, garage doors, thermostats, whole-house generator, outdoor lighting and home entertainment system from one app on their iPad.

They asked if I had a home automation system. I told them I could control via WiFi my thermostats, security system, garage doors, smart plugs, whole-house generator, Ring cameras, outdoor lighting and irrigation system all on separate apps but all were compatible with Alexa. They asked about cost. I told them I spent about $4,000 total and the main difference between our capabilities is I don't have a swimming pool so no need for pool pump control and I don't have a home entertainment system. However, they can't control their irrigation system with their system.

They couldn't believe the difference in cost.

Electricity is electricity. The article covers the eventuality of internet loss.
