Based on a recent thread on electing Abound

I thought it would be interesting information to look at the current 2026 Abound conversion (election) of MFs to CPs.
Here is what I have...

2026 MFs to CP conversion:
WKV P+ (81K SO):
$1346.67 -> 2600 CP = $0.52 per CP
[good value, started at $0.45/CP when Abound was initiated]

WKORV OFD (172.7K SO): $4,958.62 -> 8325 CP = $0.60 per CP
[ok value, but has gone up significantly with recent increase in MFs, $0.45/CP at Abound initiation]

WPORV (148.1K SO): $3,866.78 -> 4300 CP = $0.90 per CP
[awful, iirc - $0.83/CP at Abound initiation]

These MF/CP values do not include Club Fee as it varies based on Ownership and Abound Elections.

Any others want to add?

WKORV OV/IV (148,100 SO): $3,598.35 -> 6200 CP = $0.58/CP
WKORV-N OV/IV (148,100 SO): $3,815.64 -> 6200 CP = $0.62/CP
WSJ Bay Vista EOY 2BR (148,100): $1,984.39x2) -> 3500 CP -> $1.13/CP

Westin Lagunamar Studio P+ (EOY) (67.1K SO) $389.52*2 -> 2,250 CP = $0.35 per CP

Westin Lagunamar Studio G+ (EOY) (44K SO) $389.52*2 -> 1,525 CP = $0.51 per CP

SVV KW 1 BR P (44K SO) $850.42 -> 1,400 CP = $0.61 per CP

SVV KW 2 BR P (EOY) (81K SO) $839.21*2 -> 2,725 CP = $0.62 per CP

SVV Bella 2 BR P (81 K SO) $1779.19 -> 2,825 CP = $0.63 per CP

Westin Aventuras (44K SO) $904.20 -> 1,465 = $0.62

Sitting through a sales pitch (75 minutes) -> 400 CP = 11.25 seconds per CP

Those Lagunamar Studios above seem extremely good value.

Westin Lagunamar 1BR Gold (Annual) (44K SO) $1316.62 -> 2,275 CP = $0.58 per CP

My average cost wound up being $0.55 per CP. I won't convert the following:

WSJ 1 BR P+ (95.7K SO) $3,475.63 -> 3,425 CP = $1.02 per CP

WSJ Studio P+ (81K SO) $2,606.60 -> 2,400 CP = $1.09 per CP
(My WSJs are VGV and don't include taxes)

RCC STT 2 BR Residence (3 weeks) $20,087.30 -> 15,250 CP = $1.32 per CP
(Also doesn't include taxes)

For comparison:
Marriott Los Suenos 2 BR LO G $2,392.73 -> 2,625 CP = $0.85 per CP
(Looks better than WPORV even though it's just gold season. I just use the 1 BR side and exchange the studio in II.)

Indeed. They were inexpensive resale, too, though I had to buy some Aventuras to “authorize” them.

Thanks Folks - interesting info. I'd had seen previously that WLR P+ had the best conversion.
Does MVC still put a nominal value of $0.70/CP for CPs? Or has that changed?

It is now $0.82/CP.

How does your studio trade?

Depends if you include abound fee(chairman) or not

1) WKORV OFC ($3,598.35 -> 8325 CP = $0.4322CP, or

2) WKORV OFC ($3,933.43 -> 8325 CP = $0.4725CP

We use at least the 1 bedroom side each year.

Generally when calculating this, you don't include the Club Dues as that fee will vary by owner. Also, how would you calculate for multi week owners? Doesn't seem right to count it only when it is included on the maintenance fee bill since muti-week owners only pay the Club Dues on one of their bills. For many, the Club Dues are billed separatly. I would only include Club Dues if one is calculating a blended MF/Point across all their ownerships.

Agreed, but the abound fee is attached to this ownership but it doesn’t make a big difference. Still very good rate at .43-.47 but we likely would never convert unless something odd happened

The Los Suenos gold studio does just so so as compared to what gets listed in the sightings. I see more stuff with a 2 BR Massanutten week 51. I did pick up a Lagunamar week 3 studio with it, which is a positive as there's actual a kitchen in those. Not sure I'd actually stay in the studio side at Los Suenos.

The complication in accounting for the MVC fee is that includes a base VSN fee (regardless), and then, if Abound ability is added, an additional cost for MVC that is based on MVC Level (and may or may not be taxed if 1st VOI is in Hawaii) that depends on the number and types of ownerships, and whether VSN is also being used or not. Therefore, calculations are individually based, but certainly above the base MF/CP cost.

For me because I use Abound and VSN (occasionally). I add an estimated $0.02 to my MF/CP values when estimating cost of reserving via MVC when electing Abound.

For me, it’s a matter of what I’m calculating the costs for. The numbers I posted don’t include the club dues because of the variables. If a guest offers to pay my fees or a potion of them, I include the club dues in an overall average point cost. I also include them when comparing different methods of booking, but not Abound v VSN, because there it doesn’t matter.

I keep it simple:

- total $'s out of my pocket
- divided by the number of (whatever) points I get for everything
- times the (whatever) points used for a stay

is the cost of the stay...

If i pay $20K and get 20000 points, it's 1c per point. If a stay uses 2500 points, it cost $2500

The VSN/MVC dues are a wash on larger ownerships

I prefer to make things perhaps unnecessarily complex and calculate the cost per unit currency in each of the systems I use as well as the total cost of a particular stay as part of my decision-making process. For us, the VSN/MVC dues are essentially a wash because of the ownerships we have; it would also be a bit more complicated than even I would prefer to have to reallocate them based on how many weeks I elect to Abound, how many I use as whole weeks that are mandatory, and how many that I use to generate StarOptions in a particular year.

I find the plain calculation of VSN and Club Point costs very helpful in the decision of whether to elect for Club Points, but it's not the only input. For example, in my post above I stated that I would never elect my WSJ VGV weeks - they are early enough in the year that if they were to ever be available in Abound prior to October 31st of the prior year, I might actually book them in Abound and elect them because that could get me more points (3,425) than it costs (3,150). It doesn't always work out that way and the availability doesn't usually show up, though. There's a similar possibility with my RCC STT weeks; I did pick up a couple of early April weeks there through Abound that someone must have elected for points - had they been there prior to October 31st, I could have netted an extra 575 points by electing.

I also wind up comparing the various ways to get the same reservation, for which I add up the total costs. The different exchange systems use different methods of valuing weeks, including different views on the seasonality.

Mine are in a similar range....between 39 cents per point and 45 cents per point. Technically my platinum Kierland studio (technically 1 bedroom) is the best at about 39 cents per point ($847.10 / 2150).

Westin Los Cabos Baja Point
3 Bedroom 257,700 SO $4301.05 7450 CP .57 per CP
2 Bedroom 176,700 SO $3252.12 6225 CP .52 per CP
