Can Marriott point owners reserve Westin resorts? if you can how do you do that. I thought they merged. I was on the Marriott club site and don’t see any Westin resorts.

Not directly with DC points. The only way currently is to exchange through II or book with cash on Marriott.com.

So they are two separate systems still. Either company can only book with there own system. So there us no benefit for each other

Yes, still two separate systems. The only added benefit is that enrolled Marriott owners can now trade through II into Westin and Sheraton properties for $0 exchange fee. Westin & Sheraton owners can trade into Marriott properties using their discounted II exchange fee of $154 ($55 discount off regular price).

Statements made by executive management at various investor presentations have said a “common points currency” that will allow points to be used across Marriott Vacation Club, Westin, and Sheraton is coming, to be followed by a “common points product” that will be sold at all brands. Originally, the first phase, the common points currency, was targeted for late 2020, but the COVID disruption has delayed their plans.

Next week is Marriott Vacations Worldwide’s next earnings report and analyst conference call, so it is possible they may have an update then, but generally their more detailed strategy discussions have come in their more in depth strategic presentation events.

There are Abound point charts for Sheraton and Westin properties so I guess the "common currency" has now been put in place. I have no expertise in Abound (so this may look like an uninformed post) but I'm starting to research it now. Just wanted to let you know.

Marriott Vacation Club (ie Abound) now does point reservations at Westin and Sheraton resorts. BUT even though MVC has purchased Hyatt you can not use pts to reserve at those resorts.

You are replying to a 2 1/2 year old thread.

Old thread but things move very SLOWLY in Abound world! Has anyone been able to use points for Westin St John? It seems like these resorts, like Ritz Club, will be heavily marketed as new benefits to owners but extremely rare reservations.

I'm a MVC owner and booked Westin St. John's for June 2024 with Abound Points. I booked out 12 months prior and was able to select between a 2-bedroom or 3-bedroom. Use the "When Can I Reserve" tool on the MVC website so you can target the first available date to book (and remember that reservation windows open on specific days of the week, not 365 days from when you want to checkin). The available dates went fast - like within a day or two of the reservation window opening.

As I understand it, units only become available when Westin St. John's owners exchange their week for Abound Points (or however it works at Westin) and then the unit becomes available to be reserved by others in Abound. The number of units available during the most desirable dates are much more scarce.

Good luck. .
