We are planning on trying to go Crystal Shores next July in 2013. Here is our game plan.

Currently have a 2012 1BR Thanksgiving Week at Orlando deposited in II with a request for July 2013 at Crystal Shores that was placed in January 2012. Any change this might come through?

Plan to reserve a May week at OceanWatch and use it for an II request first for July 2013 at Crystal Shores. Then cancel the other request if this request comes through. I will have two requests with two different weeks for July 2013 at Crystal Shores.

If nothing is matched by beginning of September 2012 I am going to cancel the OceanWatch II request and cancel the reservation. Then convert the OceanWatch week to DC points and try for 5 to 6 nights at Crystal Shores using DC points. This is the only part of the plan that has me nervous. Do I have this right? I will be able to cancel the II request and get the week back to convert to DC points?

I will leave the Harbour Lake II request until just outside the 60 mark where I can cancel the DC points reservation or to the point where other plans have been made. The DC points will get used for something else in 2013 or deposited to 2014. The Harbour Lake deposit is good till Thanksgiving 2014.

Does it sound like a good plan?

I'll just add that I have never heard of anyone getting into Crystal Shores with just a one bedroom Marriott deposit. Maybe this has happened in flex, though. I for one have tried trading in with just a one bedroom platinum and had no success. Your two bedroom OceanWatch, assuming it is a summer week should do the trick.

Another option (and probably the one that will give you the best results) would be to rent your OceanWatch week and in return rent the Crystal Shores week you want. I had no problem renting my OceanWatch week. I'm assuming you own a Summer week.

Can you make a Request First for a date that is after your reservation date for the week you are searching with? I thought that for request First the date you were requesting had to be before the start date of the week you were trading.

I had locked of my Harbour Lake and the 1 BR deposit was just sitting there from Thanksgiving till early January. I don't really expect to get the exchange with it but if being early counts for anything the deposit and request couldn't have been much eariler.

OceanWatch is a gold week. The TDI for the week I plan on reserving is 125. It's not the best week I can get but waiting till the end of August will be too late for the 13 and 12 month deposits for Crystal Shores to start showing up.

I believe you can request past your deposited week if you are requesting another Marriott. If I recall correctly I had a request first in last year for a July week using a May deposit - I later changed it to a deposit first because I got and AC for the week. One other time I was told it was not possible - but I did have a request first in last year for a week after my week. Try a different agent or ask to speak to a manager. The request would have expired a few months before my deposited week - I don't remember how much before.

How abour Easter week next year? Myrtle Beach is becoming very popular for Spring break. You should be able to book that week later this week or next week, I think -- or at least very soon.

Outside of doing a partial week through the DC, I do think II is the best way of getting your reservation, though. Renting probably won't work becuause the Crystal Shores week is worth more than the Ocean Watch week, but in II, you can get some great up trades. I'm going to SurfWatch for this Easter thanks to a one bedroom summer 2012 Willowridge deposit. Got that exchange about 10 months ago. I think that was an uptrade so I would think you can exchange any gold OceanWatch week for a July Crystal Shores week -- provided Marriott actually depostis those weeks.

I don't know if you can do a request first for any time past the week you are depositing? On-line, I do not think this is possible, but I am not well versed on that topic.

Good luck.

You sure can. You want to ask for the Marriott Internal Exchange Option. Here are some details from the II buyers guide.

Marriott Internal Exchange Option. In addition to being able to
request an internal exchange to a Marriott Resort using either the Deposit
First or Request First exchange method, a Club Program Exchange Member
choosing to relinquish a Week or Individual Member may select a third
type of exchange method available only to Club Program Exchange
Members choosing to relinquish a Week(s) and Individual Members (the
“Special Marriott Internal Exchange Option”). The applicable Club
Program Exchange Member or Individual Member must select from
the Deposit First, Request First, or Special Marriott Internal Exchange
Option exchange methods at the time of initiating a Marriott internal
exchange request. The Special Marriott Internal Exchange Option may
be used where a Club Program Exchange Member or Individual Member
places an exchange request at least 75 days prior to the commencement
date of his or her Week and requests travel dates that fall after his or
her assigned Week.

We got a trade in to Ocean Watch for the week after Easter week using our 2012 Harbour Lake 1BR. A request will be needed, but Ocean Watch is a pretty easy trade in early spring.

Thanks for letting me know. Trying to decide where/what to do for next Easter. Would love to go to OceanWatch, but the weather can be cold. With that said, I am so looking forward to going back to Hilton Head (staying at SurfWatch) for this Easter. It has been about three years since we were there for Easter.

Myrtle Beach is a good distance north of Hilton Head, but I love it there. Am leaning toward Orlando, not for any of the parks, but for the better weather.

...and to the original poster. I was thinking that reserving Easter week at your home resort of OceanWatch might give you good trade power. Maybe there is more demand for May weeks, but for families, I bet Easter week is the #1 pick in gold season, ouside that one or two weeks in late August.

After my original post I realized that Easter week has a slightly better TDI than a May week - so that is my goal go grap an Easter week to exchange next year.

Thank you Dioxide for confirming what I already thought about requesting an exchange after the deposited Marriott week.

II Request after deposited check in week

The plan is NOW going smoothly after a rough II start.

I got the reservation for OceanWatch for 3/30/13 (confirmation email dated today at 9:00am).

I called II to do a request first for July of 2013 and was told I can't request after my check in date. I asked for a manager and was told she will tell me the same thing. The system will not let them do it. I told her I did it last year. She put me on hold and came back and said I can't make a request for July 2013 until June 2012 with my March 2013 week. I said Thank you and ended the call.

Now in my confused state I check my dates from late year and confirmed that I had an Easter week reservation and I know I had a request first in for July with that week.

Even more confused now I did an on line chat on the MVCI web site. Once again I was told I cannot request past my reservation date.

Last step (which should have been my first step) was to call the VOA number on the top of MVCI web page and got through in less than minute. The very nice lady, Wendy, easily got my request first in for next July. Now it appears on my II account. However, I cannot modify it online.

The VOA said she can help me with anything including II requests. Lesson learned: In the future when I need to speak to any one call the VOA number first.
