We have a 2WD '06 Pilot we bought (new) last March. Around 7k, it started making a whining/rattling noise upon acceleration. It is loud and annoying. It has worsened now that I am at 12k. First the dealer says he can't hear it, then he says they all do that. Well, it didn't do that for the first 7k, so what gives? A service tech told my husband that despite what the service manager was saying, he's only seen one other Pilot with this problem. The car is under warranty, and I want the problem fixed. Of course the dealer is saying this noise is normal and will not look into fixing it. Experience? Advice?

Go to google and type lemon law auto...you will find hundreds of sites with information telling you about your rights. Get it fixed or get a new one.

I have the same thing with my '04 Pilot. My husband talked to them about it. They said it was an annoying sound, but not dangerous and not covered by warantee. Expensive to fix. So we live with it. For this and other reasons, I don't think I would buy this car again.

Oh, and our noise seems to be worse in cold weather, for some reason.

I had the same issue with my Honda Accord, but my technician put in a new transmission since the old one was shot at less than 30k miles.

I also got a new engine at 75k (under an extended warranty that I bought). This time they found the problem by hearing a strange sound. I never even noticed it.

Hondas are great cars, but mine has had some major issues and my dealer did me right by all accounts. I've had three others over the last 15 years with no issues at all. I'm with a smaller dealership and their service department is great. I actually think this is one of the most important things about buying a new car, and most people don't even look into the relationship they'll have with the dealer for the next several years. Alll they worry about is whether you get a good price.
