Lots of rain going through the islands. Kauai is having rain of one inch an hour so be careful if tou are on Island. shaka

There is also a flood advisory in Honolulu. Roads there can develop pending quickly.

We have had rain here on Molokai tge last few days. Yesterday, the dips in the road started to flow with water. Kim went into town this morning for Ukulele and I'm sure the dip was fairly deep.

She has a second Ukulele session this afternoon so hopefully it doesn't get worse.

Slip, please feel free to ship the excess to Texas. We'll take it, no questions asked. . . .:)

Yep, we always still say, we need the rain. :D

Kim made it back but she said the dip was really high the person ahead of her turned around and didn't go through. We'll see what happens later in the day. She may have to cancel her second session.

The dip??

Sorry, Molokai speak.

It's a depression in the road designed to have water run over the road. There's a sign that says don't cross when the water reaches the red mark but the red mark has been worn off years ago.

The water runs quite fast during storms and it's impassable at times. We've been here 2 years and there have been three times where it rained enough where we didn't even try to check it, we just stayed home. Locals post the conditions on Facebook really well.

Kim decided to cancel her afternoon session.

Here's some pictures of "the dip". This is the one on the way to Kaunakakai town. The water is higher today. It's 3 miles west of where we live. There is another one to the east that is only a block away from our condo.

I've seen those in my trips to the islands! Never seen one actually in use. I'll remember the name now. HAHA.

After 40+ years of T/S ownership, I am no longer "an owner"
Here's a photo of a "dip" on Kauai. Didn't know there was a name for them!

Yes, Oahu has the same. I don't know if the term is used anywhere else but the first time I heard the term "ponding" to describe road conditions was when I moved to Oahu.

Kind of weird to me, in NY that would have the road built up and a pipe for the water to go under the road. I think the only fording like that was inside of state parks - outside on highways it's always "don't drive into the pooled water" cause you don't know if the road gave out under it or not. I have to admit I often have ignored that rule, to no ill effect *yet*. But I don't think I'd try crossing that sort of water - looks sketchy to me.

Definitely nothing I have seen until we started coming to Hawaii.

We have went through with the water a little higher with no issues. When we first got here some locals showed us to go through on an angle. Our SUV sits a little higher and I do put it in four wheel drive too but when it's really bad and warnings are out we usually just stay home. The good thing is that recedes quickly.

Here's the signs by our dip and how it looks with no water.
