One of my favorite movies (The Wheeler Dealers, 1963) contains a bit spoofing modern art. The James Garner character asks a modern artist, "Do you work with light on space, or with space on light?"

Looking around to make sure no one hears, the artist leans close & says, "Six of one."

Later the Garner character makes a deal to buy the modern painter's total output. Garner's investors don't understand, so he explains. "Boys, some artists in Paris, France, got famous painting fuzzy pictures & the investors who bought up their fuzzy pictures all got rich."

One of the good old boys says, "But Henry, these pictures aren't fuzzy. These pictures are scratchy."

"Right," Henry says. "When those artists in Paris, France, painted those fuzzy pictures, the world was not ready for fuzzy pictures. But now those fuzzy pictures are worth millions. Today the world is not ready for scratchy pictures. But mark my words, pretty soon the whole world will start going crazy for scratchy pictures. And when they're ready to buy scratchy pictures, people will have to come to us, & our price for scratchy pictures will be sky high."
