10 best college towns in America for football, fall foliage and fun

There are some universities in the following states that are upset and angry with this .
Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and Florida.IMHO.

I’ve been to all of the SEC campuses and a few non-SEC. I’ve been to Athens GA a few times and would disagree from the perspective of a visiting fan. We were treated pretty rudely (shouting, cursing, shaking shakers in our face, etc. Neyland Stadium in Knoxville is the best setting in the conference, although they can also be rude, well, back when they had decent teams, anyway. Gainesville is actually my favorite SEC stadium. We’ve always been treated very well there. Two other stadiums stand out to me, Penn State and the Rose Bowl. I don’t know if or how much it has changed since the Jerry Sandusky scandal as we visited right before that broke. It was a beautiful little town and gorgeous setting. The people were fantastic and genuinely thanked us for visiting. And, the Rose Bowl. We’ve been twice and would love to go again. The area around the stadium is beautiful and perfect for tailgating. Sitting in the stadium, watching a football game with the San Gabriel Mountains as your background! What more can you ask for?

So many amazing campuses and football experiences could have made this list.
The one I would have included is Notre Dame. So much tradition! We have only been to two games there (when niece was in the marching band), but have great memories.

Since this was on The Points Guy site, methinks it was more about where one could get a hotel room on points than (excepting Football) Foliage and Fun. Oh well, 'tis the season.

I question any list that includes Kansas University as a football destination, although it is probably easy to get tickets. We lived in Topeka and our daughter went to KU. Lawrence is more like a KC suburb than a quaint college town. I would add Miami University in Oxford, OH and Marshall University in WV as great places to visit during fall, primarily due to the beauty of the areas surrounding the campuses.

Anyone watching the Alabama-Texas football game, that is one fired up home crowd.
