How is the weather in Orlando and are the parks lively or dead late May?

I just (about 7:20 AM this morning) confirmed a Saratoga Springs May 23 through May 30. 1 bedroom sleeps up to five. I don't know if somebody had just released it. I had not seen any notification via TUG but just saw it as I checked "Orlando".

Those dates will work for some relatives of mine from Europe. Is the weather (temperature, humidity, etc) in late May better or about the same as July (for instance)? They have two boys who I believe would be happiest if there were many kids around them. Since most US school systems haven't yet ended their academic years as of May (although many have like Nashville whose last day is May 21), would the Saratoga Springs pool(s) and the parks be less lively than later in the summer?

Should I hold out for another drop when I might be able to get some other resort or some other time?

In general late May is better than July...but at WDW you never know. One of the worst experiences we've ever had at WDW (from a heat and humidity perspective) was in April as unseasonable weather kept the temps in the mid to high 90s all week.

Just as an example of Orlando weather, one trip to WDW over Christmas/NYE had us in the pools seeking relief from 90 degree temps at the start of the week and freezing in the rain and 40 degree temps at AK at the end of the week.

The weather in May is horrible. High heat and humidity.

I looked up your question on a couple weather websites for Lake Buena Vista.

The average high temperature for May 23 - 30 is between 88 and 89 degrees, and the average low temperature is between 67 and 69 degrees. The historical average rainfall for the entire month of May is 4.17 inches. The rainiest months are June to September, so you can definitely expect at least some rain in late May.

The actual temperatures in 2025 had highs between 89 and 94 degrees, and lows between 71 and 74. There were four days when there was at least some rain.

I would definitely avoid July due to the heat and rain.

Historically July is more humid than May. In reality it’s a tossup, May can be just as bad. But I’d rather go in early May than in July.

And there might be more kids in July, but it seems there are plenty of kids all time of year.

Isn't Summer attendance at Disneyworld trending downward due to the poor weather? I think Summer is the slow period of the year there.

Maybe, but there are still many families that visit then due to school and work schedules. Not everyone has the freedom we do to travel based on weather!

Disney has crowds all year round. May is better than summer. You got a great exchange I would keep it!

Hello andre, I have been to Orlando in the summer and the heat and humidity are oppressive. I do, however, realize that you need to go when school is out. May, on average, would be better than June/July/August. Weather wise, April and October would be even better but with school in session, they are not really an option.

If you are going to Walt Disney World, I recommend that you pick up a copy of the following book: "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2026" by Becky Gandillion & Bob Sellinger. The years 2024 or 2025 of this book will also be fine. Walt Disney World is not inexpensive, and this book will help you come up with a plan to get the most out of your time and money. With children, you should have a tour plan that balances theme park time with resort pool time.

I went once in late August because the room rates at the Polynesian were super cheap. Sure there were still people there but it wasn't too crowded. I found out why. Never again. I understand that people adapt to heat differently. We live in Seattle and start complaining it is too hot when the temperatures hit 75.... 52 and sunny is glorious.

No, May is considerably slower than June other than the holiday weekend. Slowest times will be April after Easter through midweek before the May holidays, August (esp second week on), Sept with a couple of weekend exceptions, first half of October, part of Nov and first 2 weeks of Dec looking at entire weeks. There are many times that are slow midweek but busy on weekends. Disney is good at manipulating demand/attendence with events though. IMO May is probably the best time of the years to visit from a crowds/weatehr combination. It can be hot but often isn't dramatically so, it's before the official start of the hurricane season, ticket specials tend to be in effect for those that qualify. My 2 other favorites times are Sept after the holidays through mid Oct and first 2 weeks of Dec. Sept is the hottest of those times generally. Dec can be hot or cold. The thing about Sept/Oct is the hurricane risk.

The pools are always busy but May is much better than summer as after noon thunder storms in June, July and August tend to shut down the pools for hours. For me, a Floridian, I like to visit in May and October but October has been iffy lately with hurricanes, May won't have hurricane threats. I'd keep the exchange..

The date falls over Memorial Day weekend. There will be plenty of kids and the parks will be busy. Many SE schools get out by the 2nd week in May. End of May is just like early June. Expect hot/humid/rain showers. I’d take end of May over July and keep the exchange.

My European relatives can't come May 23 after all. So I had to cancel the booking just now. Not sure when you should see my Saratoga Springs May 23 thru 30 week in II.

After canceling the Saratoga Springs May 23 thru 30 week at about 10:15 last night (II's customer service is open till 11 and cancellation must be via customer service rep), I kept checking until finally going to sleep at 12:15 AM and it had not yet appeared. But when I got up again at 2:30 AM, that May 23 thru 30 week was there as well as another Saratoga Springs first week in May. Both taken when I checked again at about 4-4:15 AM.
