Ongoing searches work

Just confirmed a 3 bedroom @ Inn on Long Wharf in Newport Rhode Island for July 2026. I had several matches that I said no to but, I decided to take this one. I always do very well with ongoing searches.

RCI came through recently with a fantastic trade to The Rushes in Door County. It was an ongoing search. It's been 5 years since we have been, and we loved it so much. It's a week in September, which we love for the cooler weather.

The RCI Points were cheap, I think 67,000 points for that week, which is about $750 + $300 exchange fee. It's a steal for us. I will be entering another ongoing search request for the same thing again in a few years.

Some of our best trades have been with ongoing searches. Shearwater is one of my favorites through RCI.

II has some amazing opportunities but I cannot take advantage of all of them. Rick is not really into all of this travel and actually is restricting our trips, believe it or not, but Door County was a big one he wanted to do again.

His not wanting to vacation as much as I do has me renting much of what we own, so we don't have all of these weeks to exchange or use ourselves.

It's a very tough trade. You really have to enter a search 24 months out and keep your fingers crossed. I wouldn't go when the weather gets cold, that's for sure. I wouldn't go in summer, but September was perfect. Apple orchards, cherries are a big crop, too. You're in the country with farms, and here you are in a timeshare.

It's such a wonderful area. It's very unique, and Dells is nothing like Door County. Lots of cute towns in Door County, and we stopped at every one of them and enjoyed lunches and dinners. We drove from home (north of Denver) and stopped in Omaha on the way to visit with family. The Rushes has a naturalist, I forgot his name, but he would take us out into the acreage on the property and talk about plants and animals that live there. So many wildflowers and bees! Holy moly!

I used to get Little Sweden in Door County via Shell points, but we no longer own Shell, and I am glad, because it was over $2,000 in my cost to stay in a 2 bedroom. I may be able to get something with Wyndham at Little Sweden, I am definitely not sure that will pan out, but as long as I can get an exchange every few years, Rick will pack up the car.

We will enjoy a week there and some nights at Glacier Canyon, if I can get anything. That's always iffy.
