[ 2022 ] Airport lines too long? Here's what you get with TSA PreCheck and how much it costs.

I'll be flying out of IAH next week, I'm dreading it since I'm used to PreCheck usually allowing me to breeze through. Now I'm trying to figure out just how early I need to get there compared to normal.

With IAH unfortunately right now it is hard to tell. Some days and times there might be no wait, some times like today 4 hrs and no pre check. I did pre check Terminal A Saturday morning 7:45 am. No line in pre check, small wait in the regular line. Earlier today no pre check only two screening lines for an airport with 5 terminals.
One thing people have been saying is terminal A seems to have the best shot of getting you through quicker. However, I have heard someone saying they were turned back if they didn't have a departure from terminal A. Keep in mind this was when A, C, D, and E were open. When only A and C are open, I doubt you will be turned back.

Per the IAH app just now: Only A and E are open, but things are better - A wait is 30 minutes and E is “only” 2 hours. United is telling its passengers to check bags in C then go to E for security, which might be one reason for the difference.

Recently read an article from TPG and he used a Clear+ Concierge Express package ($99) and got to the front of a very long line.

Also read an article how Clear is having heavy enrollments now and its stock price is going up.

A report has just come out of Washington DC that the the administration has decided to pay the TSA agents.

Edited to remain non-political:

WASHINGTON >> [The Administration] said today he will take executive action to pay 50,000 airport security workers as a deal stalled in Congress to address staff shortages that have snarled travel around the country.

[The Administration] said he was instructing the Homeland Security Department “to immediately pay our TSA Agents in order to address this Emergency Situation, and to quickly stop the [redacted] Chaos at the Airports. It is not an easy thing to do, but I am going to do it!”

Nearly 500 airport security officers have quit since the start of a partial government shutdown in February, the Homeland Security Department said, as a congressional dispute over the department’s funding forces Transportation Security Administration officers to work without pay.

We are traveling next week, so hopefully there is progress on this soon. Even though I know last shut down it took a month for the paychecks to go out after an agreement was reached.

I don't have exact numbers but I have heard that a number of agents quit. I wonder if they will be allowed to come back, if they even want to. And if they don't many airports will most likely still be short staffed.

I have seen reports it's somewhere between 450 and 500 agents that quit. The workforce is 50K, so it's a small percentage but will certainly make an impact.

TSA Pre-check at EWR Terminal A was no problem today…somewhere around 10 minutes

Denver is running smooth today as well. It's partly the new system in place at DEN. It's amazingly fast.

Airports that are recipients of the presence of I.c.e. Agents who aren't trained for the job Tsa agents perform could ask that they only permit travelers with boarding times of 2 hours/90 minutes or less to join the security line. That'll give the paid I.c.e. Agents something useful to do VS. what photos show they do.

Heading to HI in May and I hope this is resolved by then. Who said TSA wasn’t essential? I noticed they did not offer a deal untilCongress wanted to go home on a 2 week break. Ridiculous!
