Interesting, I didn't know that the renewal fee (if done online) for PreCheck is less than the original fee. $70 vs $85.

And we knew it was going to happen. These are the highest paying jobs. So I always try to be extra cooperative as I go through the line. It sickens me to think these people are expected to show up for work for delayed pay.

Yes, due to Spring Break, I've been hoping it would all come to a head and be addressed... by the time I fly in 3 weeks...

We flew out of Terminal 2 at MSP today, which is where Sun Country and Frontier hub. There are planes to several Mexican and Caribbean destinations on Saturday. No lines at all for TSA! We got to the airport more than 3 hours in advance and were amazed. It took us longer to find a parking spot in the ramp.

The major television networks are showing long lines in the airport?
Truth or False?

We flew out of Las Vegas yesterday, and there were long lines and they were noticeably short-staff. For instance, on the security line we went through, there were only 2 people working on the whole line. That meant, if someone could not get through the scanner, or their bags didn't pass, there was no one available to scan individuals or their bags separately. So one of the other people had to leave their job, and handle any individual issues, while the rest of the line just came to a stop.

Right after we got through the first station where you show your ID, there was a teenage girls team of some kind with their coach, but no other adults, coming through the line behind us. The coach was not organized: none of the girls had ID's, their home printed boarding passes would not scan, and they did not have boarding passes on their phones. They were still standing there (stopping the line) when we got completely through security and on to our gate.

Also - The priority line was not open.

I went to Staples today to complete my TSA Pre-Check application, they have the CLEAR machine to scan your passport, fingerprints, and take a photo. Pretty quick and easy $79 for 5 years enrollment. There were 8 people in line at my appointment time, so one thing this TSA slowdown is doing is encouraging more people to sign up for Pre-Check.

It depends. Some airports are impacted more than others.
Exactly. At first in the Houston area it was Hobby (HOU), now security there is flowing well but Bush (IAH) is having hours-long delays. If I were flying now I’d be checking with the specific airport.

It varies from airport to airport and can change by the hour too. Also, in big airports like IAH, the terminal you pass through can affect how long it takes. I went through terminal A yesterday, no line in pre check.
Terminal A
They said regular check in the the North was closed. Some people still went there, for those people there was no wait. That line is on the same side as pre check. Those who went to the south had about a 15 minutes wait. Not bad.
Terminal C
Regular lane was over 1 hr.

The Govt. has announced that they are going to send ICE to supplement TSA agents, so this problem should be resolved quickly.

According to Tom Homan (the Border Czar) they will not be doing Screening as they are not trained for that. They will most likely relieve TSA Agents from routine Security such as making sure people do not try to go in Exits. They can handle that. They hope to have the Plan finalized later today.

ICE agents are all armed, correct? TSA agents are not, correct?
ICE agents are law enforcement, so they can be armed. TSA agents are not law enforcement, more like unarmed security guards.

Many dog whistle comments made by posters. I just hope ICE is able to alleviate the long lines for travelers.

Hahaha

PreCheck isn’t of much use when it’s not operating, for instance at Houston Bush today. Only 2 checkpoints open now (terminals A & E), and the estimated wait is 4 hours. Clear is closed too.

This is true.

We waited one hour for TSA Pre at SJU (Puerto Rico) and allowed two full hours of delay, so we arrived at the airport 3 hours before our flight and waited around for well over an hour before boarding our flight back to Denver.

We saw ICE at SJU making sure people didn't butt into lines, and some agents had dogs sniffing for illegal substances. The TSA agent said she was glad she didn't have to tell people not to cut in line. She gets afraid for her own safety because there are some angry people out there. Some are absolute bullies and that shouldn't be tolerated, but mostly we saw people visiting with one another. A lot of us in the line were on cruises with Princess and Norwegian and this was our return home.

I'll be flying out of IAH next week, I'm dreading it since I'm used to PreCheck usually allowing me to breeze through. Now I'm trying to figure out just how early I need to get there compared to normal.
