Amex Hilton Changes

Pretty sure

With these brand-specific credits and offers, the brand funds them, not the credit card company. Oura is basically using this to get more rings into the hands of affluent people who then pay them a monthly fee for the membership. Oura wants the annual recurring revenue from the membership. While I can understand your viewpoint, they can't give away the rings and the membership for free.
Agreed but what good is an annual membership? It should then be marketed as a one time offer to buy a ring.

Also many folks' concern that this is Oura paying AmEx to get this 'credit' to lure more customers
I would assume that is exactly what it is. The discussion reminds me of Costco saying "We have Some-Big-# of $ savings in our promo catalog that we send out each month." when, goign by $-value, almost all of it is for big-ticket things that people would buy once every yr or 2 or less often.

I have heard good things about Aura, and know a few people who have had and loved them for years. I am interested in them, but have not explored exactly what the membership covers.

For the most part, the membership is needed to understand and analyze the data collected and to use the api. Without it, you get 3 days worth of limited data.... So, you basically need it to make it worth it.

Sell on EBay for $50
The downside to this is that you play right into their hand. They are willing to give you a ring to get you pay membership fees so, if you sell it on eBay, then they win because the person who buys it, will subscribe to the membership. Better off tossing it in the trash rather than play the game.

Now, if folks want to pay the membership fee because it is useful for them, so be it.

I would rather be in a win-win situation where I get the $50 from selling it on eBay and they get the membership fees from someone else if I bought one and decided not to use it. Also, I'm not really positive it would be appropriate in the trash due to containing a battery. My bottom line is that I would probably just not buy one if I wasn't going to use it myself anyway.

But I am all about sticking it to the man....:)

Re Resy & Amex Platinum credit: Is this true?
TY

'No, you do not need to book through the Resy app or have a Resy account to use the Amex Platinum Resy credit; you only need to pay with your enrolled Platinum Card at any qualifying U.S. restaurant that partners with Resy to receive the statement credit. However, you must enroll in the benefit through your American Express account to be eligible for the credit.

Here's how to use the credit:
  1. Enroll:
Log in to your American Express account and enroll in the Resy credit benefit online or by calling the number on the back of your card.

  2. Dine at a Resy Restaurant:
Visit any participating U.S. restaurant that uses Resy for reservations or dining.

  3. Pay with Your Card:
Use your enrolled Amex Platinum Card to pay for your meal directly at the restaurant. You do not need to make a reservation through the Resy app or be a Resy member.

  4. Receive Credit:
The statement credit will automatically appear on your account within a few days to a few weeks after the purchase is made'.

Re Resy & Amex Platinum credit: Is this true?
I enrolled yesterday, and got email confirmation. The Amex app was also encouraging me to link our Resy profile with Amex - that turned out not to be required, as DH couldn’t remember his PW and enrollment of the card for credit was a separate process.

I don't even know what an Oura ring is ... are these nipple rings or something else? Not sure I wanna know. And the membership is to what? ... clubs that require these rings?

They may have a sub-menu for that for select members...:)

They are a wearable heath device that monitors various health variables like BP, sleep patterns, etc.

Many of us don't like some wearables due to terrible battery life; some others get in the way or show TMI (too much info) on the display. Oura (& other rings from Samsung & others) have a less intrusive way of gathering that data (& sharing the insights later, if one wants). They pioneered the ring wearable concept. Good team & good data analytics behind it. Sleep data comparable to lab sleep study for sleep apnea etc (for the many who have & don't know). Like whoop, this was also popular amongst athletes (training load & recovery, not as activity tracker) . Many women use it for menstrual cycle/fertility planning/tracking....
Good product (which I certainly will use) but don't like the AmEx credit limiting how/where you can use that credit. If it allowed us to use for membership, then it would be a really nice credit to get the ring & then pay for membership each year. (But then people which actually use it & AmEx will need to pay, which they don't)...

Yes pls; I enrolled for the Resy credit via the AmEx app but wasn't sure if I am 'good to go' & burn/use that credit at the restaurant without registering for resy etc (as I have never done that, yet). Happy to do so, if required, but if not, would rather just eat at the restaurant & not do the resy registration etc..
TY!

And the third quarter of the year ends in 10 days, so I will be taking this for a drive next week!
