Seeing many folks smoking at HGVC locations (at Bay Club, KL currently), in common areas at HGVC (rather than designated smoking areas)...
Curious re everyone's thoughts and what folks (would) do...
TY!

Cal security and follow up.

I suppose it depends on where they are smoking. If it is in the pool area we may say something or report it. Depends on the situation. Though I don't know if we've ever had that situation. If their just walking down the sidewalk or in the parking lot to their car, it would be more the "who cares".

As for cigarettes vs. weed. I am certainly more tolerant to cigarettes. Weed is just plain horrible and I usually smell it at least once at any resort we visit.

I’ll be very candid
I’m a smoker
I follow the rules … period! But I will tell you frankly … most people are far more concerned about the weed smoking at timeshares than cigarettes. I’m currently at Exploria at the reserve 601, their highest end section and the weed smell is out of control!

That explains a lot.

The only people smoking at the Hawaii resorts were the Japanese. The Americans don't smoke.
Not true; had 2 'American' folks smoking just this morning, 1 at Bay Club & the other at KL; prompting this ask...
(I kept my mouth shut, ignored them & walked away, not to ruin my own vacay, in the same spirit as @HuskerATL noted)..
Have seen many Japanese in HI (glad they are here & spending their monies, as we had a recent discussion if they may have cut back on coming to or spending monies in US, esp HI); all were courteous & haven't come across one smoking in the non-smoking areas, yet...
TY!

The weed smell is terrible... Hate it. Can't even enjoy the balcony without smelling weed. I could care less what people do, as long as it doesn't impact us. They need to start making brownies instead... That is a good smell...:)

Agree, not nice...
Realize it is legal in many states but would be nice for folks to pls smoke in designated areas only..
TY!
Even when legal, most states only legally allow use while in your own home. Not in public. It depends on the state.

I realize it’s legal in a lot of states, it’s their life, not my business … but have the courtesy not to do it where others have to smell it was my point, hold them to the same standards that people do for smokers. Courtesy and respect.

You are soooo right … I would love ❤️ to smell brownies everyday and night 👍

I would say something if it were in an area that I was in.

As for choices, you had one that was backwards of what I would have chosen.

I am ok with people smoking weed but no cigarettes or e-cigarettes or cigars.

I find weed far less offensive than the others. Of course, having worked at 89 Dead shows back in the day may have had an impact on that :)

Cheers.

We were enjoying a meal on our lanai and suddenly smelt a skunk. I looked out around the corner and 2 people were smoking on a picnic table over looking the pond. I said loudly "What is that horrible smell?" They looked at me and did nothing. I then asked them to go smoke somewhere else and they left. I do not like any smoke smell at all. I will bring a can of Febreze and spray it out my lanai screen in their direction. No smoking in the unit means no smoking on the lanai. I will gladly call security and report them.

I think your weed sensory organs are dead now.....:)
Certainly a possibility. But I do have a sensitive sense of smell, so it may not be that. Unlike most here, I just happen to like that smell. Definitely an improvement over cigs or cigars. The reality is that e-cigs don't have much of a smell unless one is very close since the vapor dissipates more quickly. At least that's been my experience.

Cheers.

At The Cove last June and in the South Tower, there is a huge No Smoking in the building sign by the front door. Not "no smoking in your room" but a smoke free building. Every day though when we would sit on the balcony, we would smell the strong weed smoke smell. Drove me crazy because we just could not enjoy a morning with our coffee and look out at the ocean without smelling smoke....first thing in the morning and all day. Now, I tried to tell myself, maybe it is a person who needs it for pain meds...but still bothered me and my wife would just go inside....so directly impacted our vacation.

I fully agree the smell is awful, but there often is no official designated MJ smoking areas on a property, or anywhere close. For example, in CO it is illegal to toke up public property, so if the hotel is not "420 friendly", those users can't use the hotel's designated smoking areas or even go off property to the sidewalk, etc. IMO, that is why I have encountered more pot smoking on the balconies vs. other smoking.

cigars can be the worst also....had someone puffing away on one at the pool area one time and, literally, the sign behind him said no smoking with the other pool rules....I just gave him the stink eye but didn't say anything.

I think we really need to promote cooking with pot classes at HGV....:)

Here you go...pass it along...:) And then the "Pass It On" efforts from someone leaving to new comers brings on a whole new meaning...:)

Carry a Super Soaker to put it out. I am laughing about all the folks smoking, Marijuana. It has been Main Stream long enough that there are now Studies/Research getting published that guess what smoking Marijuana is just as bad for a person as smoking tobacco.
