Donuts at NCV😊

I have only been to Westin Lagunamar presentations in Mexico and what they offered was on par with what they offer in the US. Nothing much. As for experiences with US based timeshare companies, HGVC probably offered the best "spread". Westgate seemed like it would be good, but it was really just hot dogs with tortilla chips and plastic cheese. Apparently they offer breakfast but since we went later in the day they had turned over to lunch options. We didn't get anything except some fountain soda. It didn't look appealing. Marriott and Vistana in the USA is not much. Sometimes some celphane wrapped stuff and water. I don't think I've seen sodas offered in a long time. They don't want to cut into that marketing budget too much and I would rather take more points than better food and drinks.
If MVC started offering the $6 donuts for free at the presentations, more TUGgers may want to attend.

This is true. Or perhaps if they offered donuts at all. I know that the free donuts owner gathering at Ocean Pointe is always busy and they just have the plain glazed ones. Or at least they did the last time I went to it.

I remember the good old days at NCV when they had free excellent donuts and good coffee every week for a morning presentation by local vendors regarding activities in the area. The donuts were great and information was very helpful.

Yes, that was so nice and so much fun, getting to meet many good people excited to be there, thankful for NCV had to offer.
There is a lot of entitlement now sadly.

Lately the pickings at the sales presentations has been pretty slim. Most of the time there are no cellophane wrapped muffins. Just small bags of chips, coffee and water. Perhaps if they had a full spread buffet they might convince me to buy something...

Here’s my two cents about MVC’s current leadership, and the lunacy of Marriott (International (as in the lodging and hospitality company)) allowing these, current, MVC leaders to exploit the Marriott name.

Last I knew, Marriott was a lodging and hospitality (including food and beverage) company, and a good one. In terms of Marriott food and beverage, we’ve enjoyed many fabulous meals at Marriott hotels and resorts, and we’ve attended many events/receptions/meetings/conferences at many Marriott hotels and resorts, where the catering/food and beverage folks at these Marriott hotels and resorts did a fabulous job (in food quality, and service). Similarly, we’ve hosted many such events/meetings/conferences/receptions at Marriott hotels and resorts.

How the MVC leaders have the audacity to call themselves Marriott (which we know they are not), and to offer us one of those gas station convenience store-like, commercially prepared muffins, or some, similar, highly processed bird food, is just beyond me. To my way of thinking, if the Marriott Timeshare Jockeys wanted to do a good job pretending they were Marriott, they’d put their best foot forward, with their food and beverage (and pretend to represent a high quality hospitality company), but, instead, the low level sales and marketing people, at Marriott Vacation Club (many of whom earn hundreds of thousands of dollars, annually), think it’s OK to offer their sales prospects bird food. Hence, their naivetĆ©, stupidity, and audacity.

So all this talk of donuts got me looking at bakeries in the area. One I came upon, Seaside Donuts Bakery, looked pretty good.
Anybody on TUG ever been to that?
https://seaside-donuts-bakery.goto-where.com/
I’ve never been to one in NB, but I think we might have gone to one or one with similar types of donuts(yes, some had fruity pebbles them) in Pacific Beach down in San Diego. They were good and fun for the kids when they were little, but we still like Rose’s better…but we have been going there for years, and are creatures of habit.😊 And I agree that since Rose’s is under new management, it’s lacking a bit. It’s hard to make the people who work there crack a smile, but it’s the same at the marketplace at NCV…they border on rude. Robin at the front desk should train every single employee in customer service….she is awesome!

When I was at Surfwatch in September they treated it like a Bonvoy lounge. If I agreed to the tour I got a wrist band for the week that allowed me unlimited snacks and alcohol. It was open from 8am to 5 pm every day. Alcohol was wine or craft beer in a cup so you could not take away but my kids loaded up on snacks everyday - white cheddar popcorn and grandma's cookies, I got coffee every morning on my walk, and we had beer and wine before dinner. That was on top of the $325 gift card, so it was a nice perk. Hopefully they do more of that!!!

Where was it located? Did it require you to have to drive to the HHI sales center across the street from Grande Ocean?

It was the "concierge" check in area at Surfwatch. They were booking tours and had snacks for people checking in. You could use the lounge all week if you signed up for a tour. The tour, of course, was at the sales center across from Grande Ocean.

We are getting the "preferred checkin" at Cypress Harbour. I might have to ask them if they allow those that sign up for a tour to return for snacks and beverages.

I think the last time I saw real food at a presentation was a Wyndham one in Branson. They had a full hot breakfast buffet. Eggs, Sausage, Bacon, Pancakes, etc. I would say this was ~2019 or so.

The only one I've seen is the one at Surfwatch as @wuv pooh described above. It was a nice perk there. They don't have an owner's lounge that I know of at Cyrpess, and we're there a month every year.

Cypress Harbour converted one of their activity buildings to a "preferred checkin". Grande Vista has a smaller room. I believe they told me at Grande Vista that I could come back during my stay, though they didn't provide a wristband.

I don't even know where such a lounge would be at Surfwatch. Where is it. I know they converted the old sales floor to villas.

A little background…..we have been coming to NCV for 20 years. We always love the delicious Rose’s donuts they have in the marketplace and I know this sounds gluttonous, but when you are raising a bunch of hungry kids, having donuts is a huge treat, and we part of our NCV vacation was donuts every morning! 😁 Two and a half half years ago, we did our regular routine, donuts every morning, then on Tuesday of that week, I thought the bill (that ordinary was like $35) was rung up wrong, because it was about $70.😳 So I said something to the woman at the counter. She said they changed the prices(they didn’t have the prices posted).
The next day I went again and they had new prices posted….yep, they certainly had raised them..for example, a little cake donut was now $6! Crazy! So I looked up Rose’s donuts and found that Rose’s bakery is in Corona Del Mar, just a little over a mile north (a four minute drive) on PCH, so now I go there every morning. 😊 They have good coffee there, too. Now, I realize not everyone may want to get up and make the drive, and if you are only getting a couple of donuts, it might just be worth the money to get them at NCV for the convenience(you can get a 10% discount at the marketplace with your owner’s card, too), but I thought I’d just throw it out there is anyone wants to buy a lot of donuts and save some money, too. 😊

Happy travels!
So many thing have had a huge price jump and with buying for a family with 3 teens - it adds up quickly! This year we brought our own smore stuff for the fire pits and made milkshakes and pina coloadas in our room. We will have to try to donuts in Corona next trip!

Yes, I get the part about things adding up with three teens and their bottomless stomachs! Ha! That’s is why I shared this info! 😊
Can you believe that for the first ten years or so we owned at NCV they had free s’mores at NCV????
The ice cream sundaes and snow cones by the pool and caricature drawings were all free, too. And of course, as super chief added, the nice free information breakfast on the big lawn where the sand volleyball court is now…I think that was on Tuesday mornings. Times have changed. Good for you for getting your own s’mores fixins….we did that too for a few years after they started charging. The donuts were always our big ā€œsplurgeā€ā€¦but there is no way I’m splurging that much on donuts now when I can drive four minutes for half the price! I mean, $6 plus tax for a little cake donut???? Ugg.
And we stock up on great wine at Pavillions…I love that place! I may have to get some pina colada ingredients, too! Thanks for the reminder! Right now, it’s over $20 a drink when you add a tip for drinks at the pool. It’s so nice to have full kitchens, isn’t it?!
Hope you and your family have many years of happy travels!

If you ever get to Branson Missouri
Hurtz donuts is an amazing
Worth ever penny
I have seen that one and never stopped. Not that I need donuts. I think that is a chain and kind of remember seeing one of those in the Denver area.

This reminded me of the absurd price they were charging for s’mores stuff at Fairway Villas 2 years ago!! Cost you $30 to make s’mores for a family of 4!

I drive by the preferred checkin building at least twice a day for the past month. Never seemed very crowded and did not know there were snacks in there. Maybe will mosey on by one of these weeks. At Cypress Harbour FD would only check me in for 4 weeks. Told me to come back for the next set of weeks. Will try the preferred checkin building in Sept.

It's to the right of the main check-in desk, and is probably the old lobby for sales? My first visit there was 2021 so long after the sales offices were moved down to the current location. The "lounge" part isn't very big and is shared with all of the concierge-type people and also has the offices for the resort back there. They have a little counter with snacks and sodas/water, and you have to ask for beer/wine but they usually have a local craft beer on draft and the wine isn't terrible.
