Have a reservation at Ocean Oak over Labor Day (Aug 30 - Sep 6). What can we expect about:

1. Traffic from/to I-95.
2. Traffic around HHI
3. Heat & humidity (assuming no tropical storm)?

Thanks!

One word answer....yes....:)

We like to check in on Friday and out on Sunday to avoid the mess that is Saturday. That bridge and lanes create a big back up when every resort has the turnover on Saturday.

Either try to get the very early or after the rush.

Will probably be hot and humid but you will have fun

We never get away from home early enough to arrive early. Most likely, we'll get there after midnight Saturday night. Coming back out probably will be different. We'll be in a wave.

You will be fine coming in. Going out will be a mess but, it is what it is. There is a Publix on the main road going toward the beach and then grills there to use. Enjoy

If you bike, rent here. You can book online and they will put the bikes in the court yard at OO and then pick them up. Great beach and area for riding. We have also booked chairs and umbrellas from them. Much cheaper than the vender on the beach and you can just lock them up with the bikes, if you get them.

We leave a day early, in this case Friday, overnight about halfway there in a hotel on 95. Then get up early Saturday, free breakfast (?) and complete the trip Saturday morning, dressed in our beach attire, check into the resort, get our parking pass and hit the beach, let them call you when the unit is ready. Seems like we get an extra day on the surf, our version of "Sticking it to the Man".

Traffic is always an issue, and as others have said, dependent on arrival or departure time.

Weather can be hot and humid just like mid-summer, or if you get lucky, you can sometimes get a break around that time of year if a cold front makes it all the way though the low-country and ushers in some lower humidity on a northwest wind and great sunshine for a few days. When the wind moves back around to the southwest through southeast a few days later, the humidity will return, but early September is when it often starts to break a little. Long range forecasts in HHI for 8/30-9/3 are now showing low-mid 80's and partly cloudy with a slight chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. It's a little too far out to be super reliable forecasts, but it gives you an idea of trends.

About what I expected. We were at OO in January. Liked the resort but I don't see that it is so special for the demand there.

I think the demand is mainly a supply issue within the HGVC system. HGVC has about 700,000 owners. Marriott Vacation Club also has about 700,000, but MVC has eight HHI resorts compared to HGVC's one.

We've been going to HHI annually since 2013, first as Marriott owners, but since 2019, we've owned our own condo in Palmetto Dunes. The island continues to become more popular, especially since Myrtle Beach's crime rate has begun getting more attention (rightly or wrongly) in the media.

We love the HHI restaurants - most are locally owned and very few national chains. For the ultimate list of the best places to eat in HHI, check out this thread in the TUG Marriott forum:

We are at our Hilton Head condo this week. We had a cool front come through last night that dropped the temps and humidity down. Today was sunny mid-80s and relatively low humidity. Same for tomorrow. Looks like a little unsettled weather may come in for the start of your trip on Saturday, but the forecast for Mon-Fri of next week is sunny and low 80s with lower humidity.

Thanks! That's the same thing we've experienced here in Northern VA. Today was a glorious day! Right now it's 78 degrees, dew point 47, relative humidity 36%. Low temp tonight is supposed to be in the high 50s.

Looking forward to the week.

Thanks again!
