Do you think Pets should be allowed at HGVC resorts? (? Dogs, Cats, rabbits, snakes)?

Aren't some states or cities passing laws now that they don't have to be properly trained service animals. Any emotional animal is allowed as long as a doctor signs a piece of paper.
The criteria for getting that is simple: you pay a consultation fee, tell me you need this animal for support because of..... (Fill anything in the blank) and bingo, you have an emotional support animal certificate.
There could be state or local laws around ESA, though I think that has more to do with landlords and rentals. Perhaps timeshare falls under that too.

For those who don't know, pet friendly resorts are available via the exchange companies.

Pets have an added cost to the association.
Agree 100%!

Which resorts?
HGVC resort, Affiliated resort, Diamond resort, etc?
At HGVC resorts & affiliated resorts.
Saw many at Park City, Sunrise Lodge.
Spoke to staff who expressed their frustrations with this too. People lie all the time, apparently, re their teeny doggie being a 'service animal'.
Was at GPP this past weekend & saw many there too.

I am a dog lover but don't want to pay extra costs for maintenance/cleaning related to pets, so agree with all of you.
Wish other HGV owners/guests are also more respectful of this policy (& HGVC corporate adopts a stricter position on this)...

TY!

Dioxide45 please be careful, ESA, is a total emotional issue. Example, I have seen individuals pushing their emotional service animals in a baby carrier and carry them on their shoulders.

I know that at least as far as air travel goes, Emotional Support Animals have been deemed legally not the same as Service Animals, and therefore can indeed be refused. Not sure if there is a different standard for hotels/resorts or not, but there is at least some precedent that ESAs can be treated differently from, say, seeing-eye dogs.
100% Agree!

ESAs are NOT service dogs.

TS's incl HGVC do NOT allow ESAs; only service dogs.

Under Federal Law there is no requirement that the Service Animal wear anything special. Nor does it require that the owner prove certified training. Management is allowed to ask two questions. 1. Is your dog a trained certified service animal? 2. What life essential task is your service dog trained to perform? Under Federal Law only 2 animals can be service animals - Dogs and ? (Guess). If a service animal misbehave or disturbs other guests it can be told to leave.
Exactly!

Per Park City HGVC staff, people lie re their animal being a service animal all the time unfortunately (but HGVC corp policy requires them to ask people & take their word for it vs requiring any proof of the dog being a service dog)...

They DO require owners to sign a document that affirms that their pet is a service dog and must be with them at all times (= not to be left alone crying or barking in the room); anyone in violation can & should be told to leave the property.

Can someone please explain to me what service does a Guinea Pig provide ?

The second animal is miniature horse.

Your last sentence is super important and people don't understand it. ANYONE WITH AN ANIMAL THAT MISBEHAVES MAY BE ASKED TO LEAVE EVEN IF CLAIMED TO BE A SERVICE ANIMAL. Business think they have to put up with anything if the person claims to have a service animal. This is not the case.

I travel on occasion with our dog.
My youngest son has Asperger’s and if he’s traveling with me he wants his dog with him
We purposely stay at vacation village or Westgate because they offfer pet friendly units.
These resorts offer specific buildings and units for pet owners.
I will also tell you if you have a truly trained service dog they are given an Id to be present to airlines and Hotels etc, if you don’t have the card … you really shouldn’t stay at a timeshare

Totally understand & get it...
And that is why it gets super complicated...
Agree, service dogs only at most TS's, except those who are specifically meant for pet owners...
Hope folks respect this... (I think most do; some don't)....

Even an "emotional support dog" isn't protected under ADA and this is where resorts need to draw the line and tell people they can't bring them to the resorts…
While ADA offers protections for service animals at the Federal level, some states have ESA laws that provide protections for ESAs at accommodations including hotels and timeshares. Resorts in those states aren’t allowed to just ā€œtell people they can’t bring themā€.

lots of snakes, especially pythons in the ocean tower

I was just @ Marbrisa, saw 2 people with dogs neither was marked as service animal. I do not believe they allow pets but I guess you can hide it. I stayed @ a Sonesta Hotel with a barking German Shepard in the next room once, so no I don't want pets allowed. Check in is late enough without a carpet shampoo.

I would pay extra for No Baby Airlines 🤣
My children are still young enough that my immediate reaction is, ā€˜Thank goodness it’s not one of mine’.
