Today I went to the one hour owners update. Very nice and friendly. No hard sell. Got $200 resort credit which my daughter and her friend are using for poolside drinks.
They are pushing flex. They say Maui has very little inventory to be purchased as a deeded property. Meaning how we used to own units before flex.
I wasn’t interested in staying in hotels so I said I’m not interested in Marriott Bonvoy points so they pitched Abound.
They said my current Maui 148k star options could be transferred to Abound and I would get 6200 Abound points and they showed me plenty of places worldwide to travel to.
But if I were to spend $26,790 I would receive 1500 Abound points a year and I would get a %10 off that price making it $24,090 and a bonus 4500 Abound point incentive points and I would also then be at the elite level.
There was also a similar deal to buy the 1000 point package for $17,800 with no %10 discount but 2000 incentive points.
Or I could buy an every other year studio flex for $21,197 which would get me 67,100 star options eoy that I could if I wanted to convert to 2325 Bonvoy points eoy.
Also with the flex purchase of the studio I could buy promo coupons to buy 330,000 Bonvoy points at $2,275 per coupon, up to four coupons.
So what do you think?
PS the final person wanted to sell me an explorer package 5 nights back to Maui or others destinations.

Nothing interesting but is it Westin Flex? Is your Maui a resale? Good to know they offer to re-enroll you into Abound.

These are pretty much the standard offerings. The question is, do you want to own more than you own now. Do you have time to take more vacations, and do you want to take them at MVC properties?

1500 Abound points per year won't get you very far. But combined with the 6200 (if you elect to exchange your Maui ownership for Abound for a given year) you'd have a lot of options. But the 6200 already gives you a lot of options. It is really a question of whether you want more time than you already have in MVC properties.

If you want Abound points, they can be bought a lot more cheaply on the resale market.

+1

Or, if you like how your week is working and want more, buy another week on the resale market. Contrary to what the salesperson said, there are dozens, probably hundreds, of resale weeks at WKORV/N listed on Redweek right now; both the cost and the maintenance fees for a WKORV/N resale week will be half of what Westin Flex would cost if bought directly from Marriott.

Such a great forum for information.
My Wkorv is not a flex property but they were trying to sell me a flex eoy which is either ocean or Mountain View depending on availability at time of booking.
Not sure what they are doing about resales as I didn’t ask because mine was purchased from the developer pre construction many years ago.
They were just trying to get me to buy something and used the “you’ll be at an elite level” to entice me.
And personally I don’t have time to travel more than one week a year so that pretty much answers it but I was wondering if this was an exceptional deal and I now know it is not.
And I did not know o could buy abound points.
Thanks very much to all of you.

I think MVC's superpower is being able to take the exact same offer they give to everyone, and somehow convince people that it’s a super special offer that they would never make but “just this one time for you.” As outlandish as that is, they are very, very good at getting people to believe that.

Great you know what you need and didn’t fall in the sales trap of “what you can do”. With enough money and more annual commitment, you can always do more.

Well you also didn’t fully waste your time there as you got a gift card and learned about Abound. With your developer purchase, you can already elect Abound Points without any new purchase. So you can start exploring “what you can do” with Abound as the sales pitched you without spending a penny. People here can give you best advice how to maximize the use of Abound you are already eligible. After that you can decide whether you need more and how to add more in a TUG (aka cheap) way.

But the question asked earlier, if you bought your Westin resale recently, or if it's something you have had for more than four-five years. You may (should) already be grandfathered into Abound.

Yes they said I’m ready in Abound and have been. I just never was interested as we Maui so much but now the kids are grown so Abound will be a great option especially since I already get 6200 points
Thanks to all for the great advice
