We had an Interval exchange to Barony Beach with unit code oceanfront view and just received a notice from the resort that we were assigned to a garden view villa. I understand that owners have priority villas assignment for preferred villa within same view class. However, since the owner released the oceanfront villa to Interval. If the incoming exchanger was assigned to a garden view villa, it means that a would-be garden view occupant was upgraded to an oceanfront villa.

Is this a pattern at Barony Beach? We exchanged to Oceanpoint, Oceana Palms, Grande Ocean, Maui Ocean Club, SurfWatch, Ko Olina, Lanai Towers, Waiohai Beach, and were honored at Interval unit code each every time.

We actually own Platinum weeks at Barony Beach and Grande Ocean. This trip is an Interval exchange.

Anyone has contact information for GM at Barony Beach?

While I personally agree with you that if an owner deposited an ocean front that’s what you should get, I understand that’s not how it works.

I disagree that if you get a garden view someone else who is suppose to get garden view gets ocean front, chances are they do something else with it -like rent out that ocean front for big bucks.

Can an Ocean watch Floating Gold or Platinum exchange into a different resort? Considering buying Ocean Watch but unclear what other resorts I could book

You can’t ‘book’ anything but your home resort in your season.
You would have to exchange through II.
That’s how all unenrolled MVC works.
MVC doesn’t have an internal exchange of its own.

Exception- Florida club resorts.

I look at it differently.
I believe owners of the resort should always be treated differently and get preference above non owners. I think that is why you may find owners who own oceanfront who exchange in will get preference above everyone else and then other owners at said resort will get preference and so on. I think II exchanges are always last on the list.

Mmm then I don't agree with what happened.

OP has not provided enough information to render a good guess, but I can reach a general conclusion about most Barony guests who trade in.....(a DC points reservation might be a different story, as the priority is slightly higher than a trader or renter, yet still below owners).

The major factors determining assignment possibilities relate to:

1. how OP got into the resort---trade, DC points, or rental?
2. what season booked (actually, specific dates within season)?
3. Marriott ownership level (I've learned from most all resort "rooms control people" that it does play a role in assignments).

In general, if the week is a high-demand time, the owner occupancy rate is much higher, and the chance of getting a "great" assignment is diminished for all, especially the non-owner. The hierarchy which determines assignments is such that traders-in receive the "second from last" priority (renters dead last).

Barony has 130 Oceanside villas (exact count), and only 4 or 5 of those units have ANY kind of ocean view at all, and they are partial and side views only. I would venture a guess that only owners would get those in peak times.

Lastly, Barony doesn't honor specific villa number requests, nor does any other Marriott resort to my knowledge. They note a general request only for the reservation ("high floor", "low floor", "ocean view", "pool view", etc, etc), and do the best they can (with 90% saying they want a high floor/ocean view).

If DC points were used for Barony (OP doesn't state), the guest "bought" OF or OS, that's all, and no "ocean view" is implied, especially at Hilton Head----you get PROXIMITY to ocean, close or not close, with no view considered.

.
Here is a reply from a thread regarding trading into Barony which may make sense. I would still contact the resort as an owner and plead your case but I guess if you are going during high demand times there are many factors at play which may just be why it played out the way it did. Don't get too riled up and ruin your vacation. Just being there is already a privilege not many people have.(I know many people will say you worked hard for it and deserve it but even having a good job where you can work hard is a blessing)

Here are the links to some threads including the one above.

I guess the moral of the story is that no one truly knows...

If I wanted a different resort one year I could deposit my usage into II? What is the cost to do that?

@Venter. Yes. Actually, we do own Platinum weeks at Barony Beach, only this trip is from Interval exchange.
Did you contact the resort prior to your stay to let them know you are an owner? The resorts often are unaware of the exchange details, so I always all the resort in advance to let them know it is an MVC exchange and my ownership details. They will typically make adjustments if they have the availability. My experience at Barony is that all exchanges are placed in garden view villas, but I've had success in changing that pre-arrival to the view type on my II confirmation. It also helps to add a few nights using MVC points in the same view type.

Have a look at the weeks faq in the pink section at the top of this forum.

Short answer is you will need an II membership ($99/ year) and will need to pay an exchange fee each time you exchange- full fee is $239 but in brand is miscounted. Enrolled weeks are free exchange in brand.

As noted, view is not guaranteed and this is usual for HHI Marriott units assignments. This is part of II's disclaimer. I would reach out to the assignment team and explain that the view type was OF and that you own there. A courteous request might provide a better option. No reason to argue about it though, still a good time on HHI.

I emailed them over 1 month ago the Interval confirmation with oceanfront unit code and informed them our Marriott ownership as well as multiple weeks at Barony Beach, Grande Ocean. And we received the garden view assignment notice today. I just like to find out whom the oceanfront unit was assigned to. Anyone has its GM's direct contact information?
