An incredible song and story. It is quite moving and chilling (literally and figuratively.) The song also plays a prominent (though yet undisclosed) role in the Apple TV series Severance.

This and several other Gordon Lightfoot songs were recorded by the late Tony Rice (Tony Rice Sings Gordon Lightfoot), one of the best flatpicking guitar players.

I saw Tony play with the (nearly) original David Grisman Quintet in 1977, then in other bluegrass and jazz formats later. Also saw Mark O'Connor in 1979 or 1980 on guitar with the DGQ on their tour with Stephane Grappelli. Both among the best bluegrass guitarists along with Doc Watson and Clarence White.

Tony's interpretations of Lightfoot tunes are excellent too. Gordon's were pretty good also 😄.

Love it. Listen to it often as it’s on my Alexa playlist.

We saw Tony Rice in concert with Alison Krauss and Union Station. Probably the best bluegrass concert I've ever seen. (We used to be regulars at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA when it featured a lot of acoustic music.) I thought there would be a DVD coming out but I haven't seen it.
